Tale of 2 offices…my gf and I went to a dental clinic over the weekend and had some extractions done. This clinic provided a list of dentists to call for follow up treatment if needed. My gf was still in pain and needed some extra work done. She used this office and said her experience was good from beginning to end as far as her interactions with the office staff and dentist. After her follow up visit, she started having more pain that the recommended Tylenol and ibuprofen did not help. We tried calling the emergency after hours phone numbers given on the office’s voice mail and got no responses. One of the after hours #s (Dr. Grillo’s) had a goggle assistant as the answering function which would ask what the purpose of the call was and would hang up after we said “tooth pain” & “dental emergency” as the purpose on different attempts. As for me, I was informed by a dentist at the clinic that he didn’t see any infection but there may be some and to seek further treatment if there was any symptoms which I did end up having, draining and sinus infection like symptoms. I reached out to this office after getting the good impression about them from my gf’s visit from the day before. I unfortunately did not have the same experience that my gf did with the staff. The person who answered the phone tried to tell me that it sounded like it was all sinus related and that would have nothing to do with the extraction. After explaining what the dentist at the clinic said, she put me on hold and then returned to the phone and pushily asked how quickly could I get there to be seen all the while sounding like she was being inconvenienced. I proceeded to this office as quickly as I could and when being seen, the dental assistant and dentist (Dr. Grillo) rushed through speaking to me and hastily began to “pack medication” into the place where one of the extractions had been done. There was more pain caused by whatever it was they were doing than when the actual tooth came out and numbness had worn off. While packing the medicine, a good amount of the medicine started draining down my throat which tasted awful and I can tell the taste isn’t going away anytime soon. After they finished, I was in excruciating pain which I said to the dentist. I told him I had already been alternating between Tylenol and ibuprofen which hadn’t really helped too much from the actual extraction but after what they had just done packing medicine, I needed something stronger. With no concern or urgency, he continued to say research shows Tylenol and ibuprofen is better than opioids although it’s not to say that opioids haven’t been used in these instances. I asked what to do if the pain continued and he said to call them the next day if so. I guess it’s ok to be in excruciating pain for 24 hours before they take it serious. Even through all of this, I still took the time to tell the dentist and assistant that I appreciated their help. I did not get a reciprocal response and they both looked agitated that I was still speaking to them. I would give 0-0.5 stars for my experience if possible but I give 2 because of what my gf’s feedback is. She saw a different dentist on her visit so that may have helped. There seemed to be adequate staffing so perhaps my gf got the “A” team while I got something different.
