Long-Time Patient, Deeply Disappointed
My every 6 month infusion was canceled the morning it was scheduled for because this site sent my prior authorization to the wrong place—even though my insurance card clearly says where to send it. I know this because my insurance representative told me, and my health advocate reiterated the same thing. I sent them my updated insurance information a week after I got married because I understand how important insurance is in making sure my quality of life stays the same.
They had my updated info for three weeks yet blamed me for a “dual insurance” issue I didn’t know existed until days before treatment.
Holly, who handles insurance coordination, told me that because I’m a therapist I should “understand how authorizations work,” blamed me for the dual-coverage issue, and even said I “can’t call and be rude to staff.
How would you feel if you couldn’t feel half your body and couldn’t walk in a straight line? And the only thing holding you up, is somebody that refuses to give you authorization info and clarify the number they contacted to send in my PA.
She also told me that on 1 October they had to redo a bunch of coding for diagnostics for certain conditions.. ma’am .. that has nothing to do with me and should not have delayed my treatment in anyway, esp if it was submitted to the appropriate parties when it was supposed to be.. That narrative is unfair. I’ve been a quiet, mild-mannered patient here for six years; it takes a lot to push me to this level of frustration.
Because my credentials were thrown in my face I would like to share that in my clinical opinion there needs to be additional training on compassion, fatigue, trauma informed care, accountability, and honesty. It goes a very long way to maintain relationships and it’s sorely lacking here.
Kelly, the infusion-nurse supervisor, later had a nurse “warn” me the day of my treatment which was rescheduled.. for calling her personal phone after hours—a number I was never told was private. Intrafusion/Makesson lists no public contact line, so I called the only number I had. Being told on the morning of my infusion that I was “burning bridges” was laughable and honestly sealed the deal with me choosing to go to ARMC from my care going forward. At least I don’t have to use a third-party Infusion suite and everybody is held accountable with a trail of paperwork.
The day after my cxld appt.. and within forty minutes of my insurance rep warm-transferring a nurse to the correct department, my authorization was approved—proof the wrong protocol was used. Ms. Kim infusion nurse is very exceptional—kind, skilled, and the reason I stayed so long— she took time to build rapport with me and that goes a long way .. but the lack of accountability and compassion from others cost you a long-term patient.
Going forward, I’ll work only through my insurance advocacy team and patient navigator—professionals trained to coordinate care correctly.
To others: trust your insurance, follow the protocol, and don’t accept blame for issues that aren’t yours. Within 1 hr of proper coordination, I was approved—bewildering proof that the problem was never me.

I saw Dr Camara at Cone Neurological Associates for neuropathy, body moving on its own after waking (seizures maybe), dizziness and blurred vision. All of this is new as of 4 months ago and I have never had any major health problems other than high blood pressure. I was at my wits end when I showed up today- I have extinguished all other avenues (3 ER visits, an ear/nose/throat doctor, 2 nurse practitioners, and 3 urgent care doctors). I thought I would FINALLY get answers but wasent too optimistic….and I was correct. The doctor didn’t do a physical exam at all- nothing- none what so ever, which I thought was weird- I dunno.. maybe look for clues with vision, maybe do a feel test of sorts for my neuropathy, or look at my spine. He went IMMEDIATELY to talking about pills. An antidepressant even though I am not depressed and I have anxiety only because I can not find any answers. He didn’t discuss any tests that could be done either. NOTHING. I feel like I have nowhere else to go and my symptoms were not taken seriously. Head pressure and pain so bad 2 days prior- I thought if it happens again i will either black out or die. Looks like thats where I am headed. Pun intended I guess.
UPDATE- I believe I have Papilledema caused by my history of high blood pressure. Why none of the doctors at Wesley Long/Moses Cone thought of this I’m not sure- I told them all I had a history of high BP, gave them a detailed list of symptoms, and a timeline of when they occur. I also told them how the optometrist found squiggly veins on the back of my eyes the week before, indication high BP. Talking to a friend yesterday, she said a few years back she had a mini stroke. She too went to Greensboro Neurological Associates. Guess which doctor she was seen by? Dr. Camara. Guess what he recommended to her as treatment?- he told her that her problem was because she was obese and that she too NEEDED ANTIDEPRESSENTS. This man should not be practicing medicine- people have actual life threatening problems and he wants to send everyone home diagnosed with depression….ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Their appointments are not accurate and they tell you something different every time. I do not recommend them.

They never call you back when you call them. All you get is the answering machine and they tell you that if you leave too many messages that it will delay the call of them calling you back.

I have been a patient here for over 2 years for sleep apnea. I was recently diagnosed with a neurological condition. I thought great, I already have a neurologist, let me just go to that office. When I called to make an appointment, I was told I would need a new referral to be seen for something else. My insurance doesn't even require referrals, so I'm not sure what this was about. It was highly disappointing. I found a new neurologist for my new condition. Now I have two neurologists. ???
I will say as far as my care here, I was not a huge fan of my neurologist, but I have not seen her since my initial sleep study. My yearly follow up with Amy Lomax is great. I love her!
