I want to give a huge thank you to all the nurses and staff at the NICU for their compassion, love, and dedication. My daughter stayed here for over 20 days, and during that time I truly felt the love and attention that every premature baby deserves. The nurses cared for her as if she were their own, and I will forever be grateful. I also want to acknowledge the amazing volunteers who spent time rocking and comforting the babies—watching them treat these little ones with such tenderness meant so much to me. And a special shout-out to the nurses on the first floor, where I had my C-section. Their support, kindness, and professionalism made a difficult moment so much easier. Thank you all for the incredible work you do every single day. You made a difference for my daughter and for our family.

An EXCEPTIONAL emergency room experience!! We were attending the NCAT Volleyball camp for our oldest daughter and our youngest daughter got swimming silicone ear plug stuck in her ear. She is 9 yrs old and has been having issues with water getting in her ears while swimming, which causes extreme pain. We started our check-in process around 10:30am on Saturday morning 7/12/2025 and it was smooth, taking about 5 mins tops for our daughter to get admitted. We spent about 7 mins in the waiting room before being called back to a room for triage. The triage process took about 7 mins as the NP-Mindy Brewer and RN-Kristyn Mills took her weight and vitals. They also asked my daughter questions about why she was there, what happened and when it happened. They calmly assured her they would be able to remove the silicone from her ear. They left the room and returned in about 5 mins with several people which initially caused my daughter to get scared. RN-Mills CALMLY assured my daughter that there was no reason to be afraid and that all of the people were there to learn from her visit. She went around the room and introduced each person and explained why they were there in the room. After the introductions, RN-Mills explained to my daughter that she would have to look into her ear and also have MD-Lori-Anne Schillaci look into her ear to assess the item and determine the best approach to remove it. They both took turns observing the item and agreed on an approach to remove it. They explained to my daughter how they would remove the item and allowed her to ask questions and also to see and touch the tools they would use the remove the silicone. After successfully removing the silicone with ease, they showed it to my daughter and us, and my daughter said “that was fun”. This is after she had been extremely nervous of coming to the ER and the process the Drs would take to remove the item from her ear. After the item was removed, RN-Mills and MD-Schillaci took another look to ensure the ear was complete clear of any debris. They observed that there were still tiny pieces of silicone in the ear and they would have to flush out the ear. This caused my daughter to immediately start to tense up as she has had extreme discomfort when water gets into her ears. RN-Mills assured her they would only use as little water as necessary to ensure the ear was completely clear. After a quick flush which did cause my daughter to cry, they took the time to dry out the ear canal and comfort my daughter. The team allowed us to explain my daughter’s history of ear issues and took the time to explain their opinions on options moving forward. They also took the extra time to observe both ears to ensure there were no short-term or long term concerns as a result of my daughter’s past issue. We were discharged and back in our car by 11:15am for an emergency room visit that lasted less than 45mins and part of the time was the million and one questions we had from our 8 yrs of historical ear issues we’ve lived through with our daughter, and RN-Mills took extra time answering them and explains her Overall, my wife, daughter and I were PLEASANTLY SURPRISED and are EXTREMELY GRATEFUL for the exceptional emergency room visit while out of town. The entire team demonstrated the service and attention to detail that should be modeled for other emergency rooms to follow.. We highly recommend this children’s ER and would not hesitate to visit when the next childhood emergency occurs:-)

My 10 year old son had woken up unable to walk and stabbing pain in his hip. We had no idea what had caused it. We took him to CONE CHILDRENS ER for xray and diagnosis. How I have lived here 20+ years and didn’t know this amazing place existed is crazy to me. The security guards at the door were smiling and we went straight to the kid ER totally separate from the adult ER. Taken back to a room immediately and Dr K came in right away. He immediately did a brief orthopedic exam and ordered X-ray and an orthopedic surgeon for a more complete exam. The X-ray was portable, brought right to the room and the technician showed Wills how it worked. Our nurse was lovely and after we were done, the occupational therapy guys came in with the BEST shoes and smiles and showed Wills how to use his crutches. Everyone there loves their jobs and this was from beginning to end the best ER experience I’ve had in 30+ years of having kids. Thank you Cone Children’s Emergency Room!!!!
