I've been going to Pearle Vision for decades now and have visited locations all around the Twin Cities. I'm usually expecting a fairly neutral experience. I only come once a year for an exam and contact purchase. My visit this past Saturday was worth commenting on. It was busy when I walked in but I was still acknowledged and kindly greeted. The staff were efficient and giving people the attention they needed. Everything went smoothly!

I went in at 6 PM with my 5 YO Son for a pair of new glasses with my insurance. I picked out a frame, while Hector looked up my information and inform me that I would have $150 off on frames and additional co-pay for my lenses. I know I do have high index lenses so that typically runs me a bit more so I was aware of that cost. I found a frame within the price range so that it would be covered by my insurance and then Hector passed me over to the general manager named Alvin. It took me around 15 minutes to find my frame so by that time it was maybe 620 or so, as a begun speaking with Alvin my process became longe and dragged out. He was delaying on giving me the price and when he finally did arrive to it, he informed me that my free frames With the lenses would be $360 or a little less he then tried to offer me a protection plan for additional 40 I asked him to go over the pricing and there were two price items one being the high index lense at 183 and the other Being the anti-glare at an additional 200 or just a little under. I asked him to take off the anti-glare informing him that I don’t like it to where he tried to sell me on it again, as well as lie and say that I already had it on my previous glasses that I’m currently wearing, which I know I Don’t Have. After he took off that fee. It was still $220. I then asked to look at his screen because he kept going over numbers and they weren’t making sense.
I then see he added an additional $57 to another line item that I wasn’t interested in getting he apologized stating some jargon that was not relevant where he said he would remove that as well And then SOMEHOW the price was $10 less at $173. I questioned on how I got to that point, but I said that’s fine. Let’s go with that as I was doing that also I asked to look at my paperwork to see what I’m covered for.
!!!!
This is when he immediately got rude, aggressive, and informed me he doesn’t want to make the sale for me. During the conversation, we talked about current whether, places to go in the fall, as well as me just recently moving here from another state at no point was I aggressive or rude. AFTER he stalled and was slow intentionally trying to rush me out of the store at a higher price. He then tried to claim since it’s now seven he is kicking me out and no longer selling to me while my five year-old son was there sitting patiently waiting for me to get done. I never have felt more scared and more threatened while my son was there and I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing.
I was just trying to understand my purchase and the general manager was EXTREMELY rude as well as manipulative with my pricing. I’ve had glasses since I was five years old and at 33 I’ve never had an experience where a glasses store manager has been rude because I ask for my information and where a price is changed that many times for a pair of frames. This store needs to be investigated and audited because they are scamming people Who do not know any better and the only reason he got upset with me is because I knew better.
ALSO
While he was expressing that he didn’t want to do business with me any longer he stated that I was somehow insinuating that he was scamming me and that must’ve just been his guilty conscious because I was asking relevant questions At no point did I say you’re scamming me or your prices is weird. I just said I don’t want anti-glare and when the price wasn’t the same as he originally said, I asked why that is.
So clearly, his conscious is doing backflips for anyone who asks relevant questions.
He also took his nametag off thinking I was a new age person going to record him but I’m old school you passive aggressive behavior won’t go unnoticed, brother.
And clearly he’s probably the one running this account so yes at the end when I was walking out getting my son I did say clearly you are a scammer because you know you are and the fact that I caught onto you just asking questions pissed you off.

Alvin made the process of buying glasses feel like a spa day! I usually dread dealing with healthcare processes like eye exams, etc…, but from reception’s warm greeting, to the eye exam, and then all the way through to the eyewear purchase, the team made my entire experience truly enjoyable. This location is defined by their ethical transparency and genuine customer care - highly recommended.

The eye exam was fine (dry and boring per usual) but the clinic doesn't let you do add ons (like anti-glare or transitions) to your one pair of glasses allotted for state insurance which is absurd. I called another pearle vision and will be taking my prescription there where they allow it (Maple Grove).
