- GBgarry boyerDec 12, 20255.0I had use-it-or-lose-it insurance benefit dollars. I'm 68 years old and other than the DMV test I don't think I had even a vision check since third grade. My wife hounded me to go and I did mainly to quiet her. Other than using cheaters for reading sometimes, I really didn't feel I had any issues. So, I wasn't real excited to be there and just wanted to get it done and make the wife happy. It started with all the pre-exam tests and the technology amazed me. It was a lot different than 55 - 60 years ago. Then Dr. Derek Wu took over for the actual exam. I actually enjoyed the exam and the technology. Dr. Wu was great at explaining things and answering my questions. As it turned out, overall my eyes were fine. Totally in the acceptable range with no correction. Still I was interested in reading glasses and when he showed me what a little bit of correction could do, I was shocked. He also said that even though I was in the ok range that I would find improvement with glasses for distance when driving. After seeing what the big improvement reading glasses gave me I figured the driving ones couldn't hurt. I ended up ordering the reading and driving glasses. I don't think I just got lucky with the people I dealt with because Dr. Derek was great, as was everyone else I had to deal with. I was very apprehensive about going, but now I'm very glad I did. Guess the wife was right again.
