- KRKatie RushSep 2, 20255.0Brought my 9yr old autistic daughter in for outpatient surgery…I was initially terrified FOR THEM bc my daughter has never had surgery or procedures of any kind so I was worried she’d be beating everybody up! Lol But they really, truly handled her with a great amount of patience and kindness! I am forever greatful! Every single staff member in that joint was professional, polite, and kind! Place was clean as a whistle. 10/10 experience!

Her warm and very professional demeanor helped calm my nerves. The anesthesia nurse, was very thorough and very professional. Unfortunately, I don’t remember her name, it started with a F. Both ladies are truly an asset to the UMMSC.
- SSShoestringJan 16, 20252.0I want to start by acknowledging the wonderful care my daughter received from the nurses and security staff during our visit. She came in for a mental health episode, and the staff was incredibly helpful and compassionate. In particular, one security staff member, Oliver, was a bright spot in an otherwise difficult time. When I learned that my daughter would need to be hospitalized, Oliver’s kindness and support helped me through an extremely tough moment, and I’m truly grateful for his presence. However, my experience with Dr. Gilbert was deeply troubling. I have never encountered a doctor so condescending, dismissive, and frankly, unprofessional, especially in such a sensitive situation. When my daughter was asked if she drank alcohol, she answered honestly, "no." Instead of offering encouragement or support, Dr. Gilbert made a shocking comment: "You’re missing out on the best part of college!" This remark was not only inappropriate but also incredibly disrespectful, given the nature of her visit. It was clear that he lacked any empathy for her or her circumstances; his attitude was contemptuous and damaging. His behavior wasn’t just disappointing—it was downright unacceptable. A doctor in this setting should be compassionate, understanding, and supportive, and Dr. Gilbert failed in every respect. I strongly believe that no one, especially someone struggling with mental health, should be subjected to such a dismissive and hurtful approach. No thanks to him, she was able to receive the care she needed from a caring case manager, who was there. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as it’s imperative that patients and their families feel heard and cared for in moments of vulnerability.
