Came to the hospital at 10:40 pm for extreme back pain. At 11:24 pm, I was finally triaged and sent back to the lobby. I was taken to a room at 11:40 pm where I sat for 2 hours and the doctor never came. The entire time I’m in pain. I received a message at 12:44 am saying I’ve been assigned a clinician. At 1:40 am, I decided to leave. My doctor never came in. I was never seen. They kept saying they were so busy but all the rooms were empty as I walked down the halls. The nurses kept trying to give me meds but the doctor didn’t even know what was going on with me. I refused the meds because I also have heart disease and can’t take certain meds. The “doctor” needs her license revoked. This “hospital” is a joke and begging for a lawsuit. I wouldn’t recommend this hospital to a dog on the street. I will be filing a complaint. I’ll drive the extra 10 mins to White Oak. At least there, there will be doctors at the actual hospital.

Extremely disappointing experience. Long wait times with little to no communication, staff seemed overwhelmed and inattentive, and the overall organization was poor. Basic concerns were brushed off, and it felt like patients were treated as numbers rather than people. For an emergency room, the lack of urgency and compassion was alarming. I would not recommend this ER to anyone seeking timely and attentive care. I spent 5 hours just to be told my son has flu.

I came to UM Capital Region Medical Center in Laurel on 11/19 seeking help for severe dizziness, chest discomfort, abdominal pain, and changes in vision. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Meers was extremely dismissive and left me feeling unheard and uncared for.
Despite my symptoms, I was repeatedly brushed off and spoken to in a way that made me feel judged rather than supported. When I asked for explanations about my test results or why I was feeling the way I was, I was told “I don’t know” multiple times, with no effort to offer clarity, reassurance, or next steps. I was even told, “Nothing is wrong with you. You’re not having a life threatening emergency, so you’re being discharged,” as if my concerns didn’t matter.
I also felt that any time I tried to speak, I was cut off. As a Black woman, this type of dismissive treatment is unfortunately something many of us experience in healthcare, and it deeply affected me during an already frightening moment. I did not come seeking pain medication, I came seeking answers and care. I left feeling judged, minimized, and disrespected.
No patient deserves to feel that way when they are scared and trying to understand what is happening in their own body.
I submitted a formal complaint with the patient advocate in hopes that future patients receive the compassion and communication that every person deserves when seeking emergency care.

I’d give 0 stars except for the night nurse. The rest of them awful. We were here for 8 hours for an urgent matter. Out of that 8 hours we maybe saw Dr 5 min. Never seen such a slow IV insertion either. And beware this is just an er. Had to transfer to a bigger hospital to get care so that was MORE waiting for the ambulance company. Terrible.

I am sure the medical staff is incompetent. They made me feel as if I was crazy and lying about the reason for my visit. I experienced a lack of proper care for the triage nurse not putting in my labs and having another nurse continue to remind him to the doctor and nurse disregarding what I was telling them and simply guessing what was wrong and discharging me. I followed up with my doctor only for my issue to be exactly what I thought it was.
