I CAME HERE ON 8/7/2025 VIA AMBULANCE TO SEEK TREATMENT FOR ABDOMINAL & CHEST PAIN... UPON ARRIVING HERE THE TRIAGE NURSE GOT REAL RUDE WITH ME AND TOLD THE PARAMEDICS THAT I'M ALWAYS HERE THEN GOT SENT TO THE ER WAITING AREA TO SEE A DOCTOR SO I THOUGHT THAT I WAS... WHEN A NURSE FINALLY CALLED MY NAME TO GO INTO THE TREATMENT AREA I WAS ANGRY WHEN SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE WAS DISCHARGING ME... ALL I WAS GIVEN BY A NURSE WAS "TORADOL" FOR PAIN AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD "COLITIS WITHOUT SEEING A DOCTOR" NOR WAS A "CT SCAN" ORDERED TO SEE IF I IN FACT HAD COLITIS WHICH THEY ALWAYS DO... BASICALLY I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH IT BY MY SYMPTOMS WITHOUT SEEING A DOCTOR OR HAVING A CAT SCAN ORDERED AND WAS "DENIED TREATMENT" TO SEE A DOCTOR... 😔😔😔

Avoid as much as possible. My bff came in here 1am and wasn’t seen by a doctor until 36 hours later. She was seen by a neurologist who said she isn’t having seizures, and then she had a seizure… The nurses hardly do anything for you, and one even left while my friend was talking to her. One nurse ā€œthoughtā€ she saw smoke coming out of her mouth (while she was eating dinner like??? How would she even do that???) and TWO nurses came in to harass her, threaten her, threaten to call security, and talk down to her as if she was a child (she’s almost 30) because they had a ā€œhunchā€ she was smoking. She had a nicotine patch and she hasn’t even been craving cigs at all. But they couldn’t even send a SINGLE nurse when she had a seizure or her heart rate went below 30. My friend even said they can search her, but the charge nurse, Leann, said she didn’t want to deal with security. Instead, she assumed she knew everything about my friend and yelled at her, ā€œKNOCK IT OFF!ā€ Then left. We asked to talk to her about it but she never came in. These people don’t care about their patients at all, not even a little bit. My friend has been so agreeable this whole time while they treated her like trash, and now this??? Accusations with no proof (not even a single hint of a smell of smoke)? This is a new low for any hospital I’ve been to. They did the same thing the second day because of a single Rumor that was spread amongst staff who trust ā€œhunchesā€ more than FACTS. Then she went through my friend’s bags without her permission, without security, and gave the whole room the most attitude I’ve ever seen from any healthcare ā€œprofessionalā€ (these people aren’t professional at all). And telling me to call to leave a complaint like every other comment in here won’t get rid of my friend’s trauma. This is the worst hospital I have ever stepped into, and will literally drive further in an emergency to avoid it and these horrible, petty nurses. Beware of this place and, if you can, go literally anywhere else.

I've gone to Upper Chesapeake's ER a few times and my experience has always been very positive. The doctors, nurses, and staff are great and really do their best to treat you as quickly as possible.

This has been a horrible experience. Communication is extremely poor. They are so interested in discharging patients that they fail to provide the necessary care and support needed. I’ve been as supportive as I possibly can. No one will call with updates. I work in DC so imagine the commute. It’s such a complicated matter and 95% of the staff is 100% condescending and dismissive. My loved one deserves better! If compassion is not your super power…plz explore a new career!

Took an amber lamps to their ER. I was met by a Nurse Kathryn Cantler, who had a horrid attitude, told me I’m no where near as bad as I was saying I was, come to find out, I am as bad after getting diagnosed as so. End up in the 2 west wing due to a blood clot and sepsis in my leg. Lots of great nurse up there, with the exception of charge nurse Sharon who takes 2-3 hours to respond to literally any request from pain meds, to scheduled meds, to a cup of ice water. However, my main issue is with the providers. I was given at most 5 minutes of face time with any/all of my providers, even though they state in my chart that they spent 50-120 minutes with me. It must’ve been another patient with my exact name and symptoms because it certainly wasn’t with me. These are the doctors who also stated they didn't know where my blood clot was exactly, but that I did have one. As well as, that I did have cellulitis/sepsis, but they aren't sure where in my leg, if it's the hardware that's infected or other parts of the leg. No further research/diagnosis was done to find these things out. They simply threw some antibiotics and blood thinners at me, stating "if the meds don't work, or the antibiotics run out, you'll need checked out by someone other than us because the infection will most likely still be there and can cause need for amputation due to necrotizing fasciitis". But they will not willing to find a solution to any of this, rather dose me up and send me hope, saying "good luck". On top of that, the one quack provider I had the most issue with, is the one who spent a total of maybe ten minutes talking with me during my 5ish day stay. Maria Gaines-Onwukee, CRNP, thinks it's totally okay to tell a patient they have sepsis. Then to say they don't. Then to say they do but they'll only treat said patient until they're stable enough to not die, but possibly lose a limb to sepsis/necrotizing fasciitis. I was told all I needed was a specific MRI to tell where this infection was and that they'd do it. The next day, she decides we're not going to do it because I can get that done with a different doctor (who is in Baltimore and takes 3 months to get an appointment with. So I'm being discharged due to being "stable", with sepsis. Although still not being able to walk/stand/bare weight, and still in intolerable pain. Then, this CRNP, thinks it's okay to lie to the patient, stating they never stated anything about whether or not the patient had sepsis. When presented with the notes that she wrote herself, proving that she did indeed say the things she said, she then storms out of the room stating "we're not going to argue". And at that point, I got no help from her aside from her half-butt attempt to have me transferred to another hospital where they can do more diagnosis into my issues, because they "don't have the ability to do so". After digging further and finding out that they can indeed do what needed to be done, I was told they refuse to investigate further because another department in the hospital (infectious diseases), who Id never even met or talked with, says I'm stable and shouldn't be in pain. This whole time my leg is a dark shade of red and swollen up twice the size of my other leg. As I stated, can't walk, can't stand, shaking/crying in pain...but hey, apparently that means I'm good for discharge. So all in all, if I’m ever on deaths door, drive me to the next county over and dump me on the street before calling 911, because upper is just as bad as it’s always been.
