This program was not for me personally. I have struggled with an eating disorder for about 4 years now. I have been through many programs and found this one to be the least impactful. I was only there for 20 days. My parents ended up pulling me for multiple reasons. My parents felt it was not family oriented and met my therapist 2 weeks after I was there. At many of my other facilities my parents were updated on my progress and treatment DAILY. Here they send a very vague and undetailed email ONCE WEEKLY. So if you are a parent I wouldn’t recommend sending your child here if you would like to be engaged in their treatment. For personal reasons now. They weren't educated about many other EDs besides restrictive body image conditions. All their groups are focused on body image and compensatory behaviors. I got there on a Friday.. I have ARFID and have many fear foods. I didn’t meet with a dietician until Tuesday. I was unhealthy to begin with. I also am chronically ill. Nutrition is something very important to POTS. I eventually passed out and they had to call an ambulance. I was then given fluids to get me back on track. They, unlike some facilities, are a food first facility. Last option, supplement. They do not do anything medical here like ng tubes or IV’s. Which I understand, because this is residential not an inpatient. No shade to the nurses personally.. but the medical care here is beyond horrible. The doctor “Mary,” does not listen to anything you have to say. She is also beyond passive and condescending in the way she says things. It feels like they have nurses just to say they have them. Yes you get your blood drawn, and vitals that's it. You can get PRN’s like Tylenol and ibuprofen, but with certain things they just sit and watch things happen. This place lacks confidentiality within. Many staff say very triggering things about people's treatment. Example.. if someone had been refusing they would blatantly say, “You should eat, do you want to go to the hospital?” Like we all are struggling. We all have eating disorders.. They are the most competitive mental illness. Certain RC’s (recovery coaches) would comment on people's eating habits, portions/ hunger cues, and preferences. I felt the clinical team does not care about patients' opinions and simply would shut us down if we tried to bring something up or suggested something. There was visiting once weekly. Also you can eventually plate your own food. But I feel that's a huge part of long term recovery. I am currently in a program that uses hand models for portioning and even my parents are learning things. But not everything was horrible here. This is a beautiful house. It has a home-like feel. There is a weekly cooking group which is typically fun. There are also 2 weekly outings. 1 was the lunch outing which everyone attends. The second one was a fun outing. Although you need less than 2 refusals from Wednesday to Sunday. This outing was chosen during the contract group on Tuesday. Lastly I loved the RC’s Sarah, Abby W, Summer, and Evan. The yoga instructor Elizabeth was so sweet and brought such a supportive and caring atmosphere. Lastly, I loved Abby S so much. I appreciated how caring most of the RC’s were. You could tell some people truly loved their job and wanted the best for us. Lisa W the therapist was very inviting and professional. Although my short stay and it not working out, I did gain some insight on the underlying issues pertaining to my ED. After the clinical team heard I was pulled I received the coldest shoulder from them. Again I am so grateful for the staff that made me feel so welcomed and supported. Best of luck to the people that go there. My situation wasn't ideal but hopefully this helps someone else!

I just got out of Clementine Naperville and I will say this is the best treatment center I’ve ever been to. The home like setting is inviting, and makes us clients feel less isolated. Every single staff member I encountered during my stay was nothing but kind, and same with all of the clients. They also have an in-house chef who makes AMAZING food (coming from an ARFID patient) and cooking groups are once a week mostly independent/with a partner. Once a week, lunch outings happen for EVERYONE (they don’t have to be earned) so that’s a nice exposure. Snacks are chosen daily by patients and meals are controlled by staff. Patients can earn portioning and pick in the moment privileges. This program is completely voluntary, so if a patient expresses strong feelings of discomfort or homesickness, the staff will work with your parents to make a plan. The staff were super flexible and even sometimes if we wanted to listen to music outside, they’d let us use our phones for that little bit. We had yoga twice a week, a garden, 2-3 groups a day, and movie night on weekends. The house was absolutely gorgeous. We also had 24/7 access to a community computer to Gmail friends and family, and play games (except for Wednesdays) I will say that like many other facilities, this place isn’t perfect and does have a few cons, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons. A few things that I didn’t really enjoy were: the average length of stay is a little longer than most but that doesn't mean it will always be like that, the levels are super hard to achieve, they only allow one flavor, brand, and temperature of supplements, and they don’t really care if your body is in distress from how high the meal plan can get. Overall I really loved the staff and the milieu that I had during my stay! I would recommend this place! Thank you clementine for caring for me so deeply.

i was here for about 5 weeks in the summer. honestly compared to my last residential, this was a lot better. yes it was hard, yes i had bad days and spent a lot of hard anniversaries here, but i met people who ill never forget. i became really good friends with a couple girls, and i miss them so much. i didn’t love all of the staff, as it felt like they forgot we actually lived there and it was just a job for them. i was told some really rude things by staff that i wont forget. but there was also really amazing staff there too. megan was amazing, so was jalisa, abby S, and most of the RCS. evan is newer to this place but you can tell he really cares about us and wants to improve. some groups were less helpful than others, i liked megan’s the best. and process group. i wish weekends had more to them because they reallyyyyy drag on. but leveling up helps you get outings and privileges, which is really motivating and makes the stay easier. overall, i would recommend this place. i’m in php now and the clem team knows what they’re doing. thank you guys for saving me! update: i graduated from iop last week!! i still think of clementine and the impact it has made on me so often!!

There’s good and bad parts of being here. I love the community, such kind supportive people and I love our therapists and most of the rc’s they really made this place worth the while, and the house is beautiful and comftorable and makes it feel more like a home than a hospital which I appreciate, but unfortunately there is just an underlying dark side. The group of girls is always changing so there’s been recovery focused groups and toxic groups. Like one girl was constantly mentioning numbers like weight and calories, her and others private information that she extorted out of them, and I was scared to tell anyone and it damaged my experience so much while I was progressing. Also, some of the rcs are very new and have absolutely no clue what they’re doing, they’re not supportive, can’t read a room, don’t understand us, take out their frustration on us, and I genuinely don’t know how they got hired and just make the days very frustrating. I also heard them and one of the nurses talking crap about me and making me seem crazy for having a meltdown and having to go call my mom on the nursing phone and crying. and they did it in the hallway while i was getting ready in the bathroom with the door open. Also the dietician. I’m not gonna lie, all the clients here can’t stand her. She’s dismissive, She blames every single thing on the eating disorders, (example: she forced my peer to eat ice cream 2x a day every day and when she didn’t want to the dietician repeated multiple times “you have to challenge your Ed.”) she forces you to order things you don’t want on lunch outings and doesn’t care if you’re sobbing, such as she forced me to get a huge bowl of Mac and cheese when I’m lactose intolerant, and got snippy when it was time to order and I didn’t want to because I was crying so hard. she ups your meal plan without telling you, and says “you’re not gaining enough weight that’s why I did it” and she makes you continue your meal plan when you go home for a really long time even if you restored all your weight. And the meal plans are so crazy like I was once crying on the nurses office floor until 10 pm because they were feeding me so much that my stomach hurt to breathe. The amount they feed us is so crazy especially right after eating nothing a week before and they expect you to eat it and if you refuse you have to fill out a sheet and call your parents. The group therapy here isn’t helpful and most of them are on topics that don’t relate to eating disorders or recovery and nobody is getting anything out of them. I also would like to mention that since everyone is new, the system is really new too, so 2 months ago the feedback used to be “keep pushing” instead of what you really need to work on and it still is like that because they don’t write the specific reason you don’t get a level on the feedback sheet. and everyone has to advocate for themselves for it to get better but it’s all still flawed. And we have to request for these levels, 1 2 and 3. Yes everyone, they treat recovery like a video game and they bribe you to get better each week with these levels and privileges. And you have to write a letter and read it in front of everyone (clinical and all the peers) telling them why you deserve to go on a damn walk. And they’re so busy that you have to keep begging for your date because they say they’re working on it but they do other stuff and it takes so long to get anything out of them. You never know what’s going to happen next, everything is just so messy and people just want to go home. Such an odd place to be. There’s worse places, but there’s better too. Parents, keep searching for a good place for your loved one.

Family therapy and individual sessions where I dived deep into the underlying issues that led to my eating disorder. Also bonding with the other clients was extremely helpful. I believe that the care was amazing and truly helped me heal.
