I was a member for three years at Brooks YMCA. They have many nice members. The cleaning staff worked hard. I liked the interior of the gym but it was very overpriced. To pay $60 monthly - even after getting a small discount being referred by a member - for what they offered was a little silly.
This Brooks YMCA aggressively promotes diversity which seemed odd for a gym. Signage and tables at the entrance to promote certain groups seemed out of place where people go to exercise. It felt very "Woke" at times. I did sit and speak to Erica for a few minutes who is in charge. She listened but it felt more like she was tolerating me.
As one example, I gave feedback about this YMCA playing Latin music for a few days straight to celebrate Hispanic heritage month even though other groups and holidays are not celebrated. It seemed very selective on their end whose culture was worth highlighting. I have never seen this in a gym. They ignored me but did change the music.
Many of us were also disappointed with the poor results with the new Pickleball court they built which, due to improper construction, is unusable to play on.
A poor job was done recently repaving the parking lot. It is still filled with many cracks. It must have cost them a great deal of money. In a few months will look just as bad as the old parking lot. What contractor would not seal all the cracks to begin with???? A waste of money.
I asked that the interior windows of this YMCA be dusted and cleaned since they were filled with dust which members were breathing in. Nothing was ever done after weeks of me asking. I actually cleaned off a section myself near my treadmill.
The management is passive aggressive. If you give email feedback they never respond. Translation - we don't care - pay your monthly membership dues - we will do what we want to do.
It's an odd way to treat people who are paying you to stay in operation. So I am out of there. Don't give money to businesses that hate you.
Update: Despite going to the YMCA in person and ending my membership 3 days before my monthly membership debit from my bank account I was still debited. I was assured it would be handled as I gave them my scan card but I guess it was not to be that easy. I had to call my bank and then the YMCA...ughhh.
