With care, skill, concern and compassion, Dr. Douglas Adel has been providing state-of-the-art dental services in Alachua and surrounding communities, including Gainesville, since 1990. The philosophy of our office is to treat all patients like members of our family, and to provide quality dentistry for each individual patient. A beautiful smile is one of a person’s greatest assets as well as a reflection of good health.
I started using this Dentist office when my Dentist of over 20 years retired.( Dr Cox) Everything was fine at first, but the longer me and my wife used them the worst things got. One day on my drive in I got a call at 3 minutes past my appointment time to make sure I was still making my appointment. I was stuck in s school zone 2 minutes from office. (Trust me they don't want to lose a dollar). On my next visit my hygienist was 10 minutes late. (But that is ok to them). My next visit was with a new hygienist that I wasn't familiar with. I was told my regular hygienist was not with them anymore. It was a little uncomfortable when I had seen the same person on all my other visits and then they put you with someone new unexpectedly with no courteous call to let me know my hygienist was no longer with them and I would be seeing someone new. This is becoming a pattern at this practice as when me and my wife showed up for our appointments this week on Monday we were both greated by new hygienist. My hygienist Mr. Roman I believe was his name told me he would shake my hand but it was wet and might be a little slimy. That's what I always won't to hear when someone is about to stick there hand in my mouth. Again there was no call to let me know I was seeing someone new. Needless to say I walked out of the office and told the receptionist to cancel my appointment and I would wait outside for my wife. When I called the receptionist at the end of the day to explan the situation she said (Oh what do you have a problem with a male hygienist) Keep in mind the Dr. I See on every visit is a man. Then I explanned to her that I think she needed to call and inform patients of changes before they show up to another surprise hygienist with wet slimy hands. There is a reason all there hygienist are leaving. And know 2 more of there patients.

I was sent a "bill" for $50 with no explanation. When I called it was for my husband canceling his appointment same day. That day we experienced a flood at our house. He did advise the office that he wasn't able to make the appointment due to the emergency and they still charged the $50 fee. Physicians that care more about money than people aren't providers I want administering care for my family. Life happens. Have some compassion and understanding.

Waking up at 6:30am to a flooded lawn due to a water leak takes precedence over an 8am dentist appointment. On the way back from Lowe's after buying parts needed to fix the leak, I still had the decency to show up and talk to staff. Staff did not care and insisted on charging me a $50 fee. A company should not be that rigid in their policies and procedures to not accommodate emergencies. They could have asked to see images or receipts, but they seem to not care about people, only making money. My wife and I have never missed or even been late to an appointment before this incident. We are willing to drive further away to deal with an office that puts people first, and are more understanding. I do not recommend this dentist office to anyone that will ever need a one time accommodation made, unless you like paying $50 for said accommodation.
