Honestly - it's weird to rate an eyeglass shop, but here we are. I'm rating more so the optometrist appointment than the shop itself for what its worth. Here's my frustations: 1) The doctor was on his cell phone with a scammer when I was called in - he said he likes to keep them on hold and waste there time. Seriously? He had them on the phone in the background on speaker while conducting the appointment - very strange, but that's not what's making me give 3-stars here as he seemed professional in all other aspects. 2) And this is what's making me give them 3-stars....the billing was sketch. When you check in, you check-in on an iPad with a series of questions. I have a regular ophthalmologist whom I see - however they don't accept my insurance for vision exams for eyeglasses. As they seem to be pretty straightforward (1 or 2, 2 or 3, 3 or 4, etc), I figured I'd go to Pearl Vision as they had appointments available. During the check-in portion, they ask you if you want additional services that cost extra. Your choice isn't "Yes" or "No" - it's "Yes" or "I'll discuss with the provider", which is what I selected. They took me in, checked my current script and did some retinal imaging (which I said "I'll discuss with provider" and they did this before even seeing the doctor - this was done by the person who was working the check-in desk. I was eventually taken to the doctor and we did the vision test to come up with the scripts I needed. I paid what they had me believe was the insurance copay of $49 (seemed high for a vision test, but whatever). I'm glad I got an itemized receipt (which I had to ask for as it wasn't voluntarily given - the only reason I asked for it was because I thought I may need to submit to my insurance as it was higher than I would have expected). When I got home & reviewed it, I noticed that he vision test was $200 ($190 paid by insurance) and $39 for the Fundus Photography Screening (which I had thought I had "declined" by saying I'll speak to the provider about it). They also charged a 3% credit card surcharge (which they didn't disclose to me when I went to pay by credit card ) could have just paid by cash and saved that BS surcharge). I reviewed the itemization and found I was charged for something that 1) was never discussed with the provider and 2) I had not approved. I called them and they told me that it was required (and if that's the case, they should have said something about it and been transparent, which they were not). After stating my case that I shouldn't be charged for something that I wasn't advised about and that I had opted out of, they finally relented in refunding me the money, stating that I needed to come back to their Boulder store (30-min away from my house) to have my credit card swiped to refund. I called them out on that being insane because any terminal can refund over the phone. They relented to that and refunded me the $39 they should never have charged me in the first place for. They did say that that the photography was not optional and that if I hadn't done it, then they wouldn't have done the eye exam - which is fine. But they should have disclosed it and told me that. I can't recommend going here if you want to feel like you're getting a quality experience. I had planned on purchasing my new glasses and sunglasses here, but they definitely lost a customer today.

I had a mixed experience here. My original appointment was scheduled as an in-person visit, but a couple of days beforehand the office called and asked if I’d be willing to switch to a remote exam. I agreed because the timing mattered to me, but the remote format didn’t feel ideal. I did get some assistance, but there wasn’t much real guidance or discussion about my concerns, especially around selection and the cost of prescription sunglasses versus how long the lenses typically hold up. A bigger issue came up later. The optometrist told me my prescription hadn’t changed much, but when another provider compared my 2024 prescription to the new one, he noticed a big shift — especially in my left eye, which had moved from nearsighted to farsighted. Based on that, I asked Pearle for a re-evaluation. To their credit, they fit me in quickly, were pleasant during the exam, and acknowledged that mistakes happen. The recheck confirmed there had been a typo in the original prescription, which could have led to a very expensive pair of incorrect sunglasses. Overall, the follow-up was handled well, but the initial error and the lack of in-store help were frustrating. I appreciate that they corrected the mistake promptly, but I’ll likely go to a local optometrist next time for a more consistent experience.
