They do not Take proper care of their patients. They do not prepare the patient with the truth of their procedure up front. They told me my procedure in a week was one day and it turned out to be two. They took my vitals, I gave them info about my sleep apnea and inability to go under general anesthesia- we had a whole conversation but that I was interested in getting Local. They only offer local anyway, but that would have been the time for the doctor to say “with sleep apnea you can’t do local without having equipment on hand in case there’s an emergency and planned parenthood doesn’t have that equipment but a hospital does” And the right thing to do would have been to help me get scheduled at a hospital or help me face the music of no anesthesia so I could make a decision. They didn’t do any of this. A week later I walk into my appt. I’m told everything THE DAY OF. The doctor also said they wished the doctor who had done my intake had included my info in the notes. Idk about you but being terrified already and then finding out you have to do this without anesthesia is a shock and even scarier and I walked out forfeiting my appt that I need more than anything. San Mateo caused the cancelation of my time sensitive procedure because I walked in I was told my only choice was to do the procedure WITHOUT anesthesia. This could have been prevented if you actually cared about the medical needs of EVERYONE. There’s other people with sleep apnea in the world so I suggest you get the referrals ready, be upfront with your patients and help them get to the end. Cuz now I’m stranded and it’s not my fault. And I am so so scared.

When I visited the facility at the age of 16 to explore birth control options, I was impressed by the range of services offered and the professionalism of your staff. However, I feel compelled to share my concerns about the lack of transparency regarding the IUD insertion procedure. After carefully considering all the birth control options available, I made the decision to proceed with an IUD due to its longevity and practicality. However, my experience with the insertion process was far from what I had anticipated… During my consultation, I was assured that the procedure would be MINIMALLY uncomfortable, with little to no pain involved. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The procedure turned out to be much more painful and intense than I had been led to believe. I felt unprepared for the level of discomfort and the invasive nature of the procedure. Feeling misled and uninformed about the potential pain and intensity of the procedure left me feeling gaslighted and violated. As a young patient seeking reproductive healthcare, it WADcrucial to me that I am provided with accurate information and adequate preparation for any medical procedures. While I appreciate the services provided by Planned Parenthood and the commitment to reproductive health, I hope that steps can be taken to ensure that patients are fully informed and prepared for procedures like IUD insertion in the future. And patients are given some kind of pain medicine BEFORE the procedure.
