I came in on Saturday, 12/6, to place a cake order for 12/7 and was told there would be no one available to decorate the cake due to a family emergency. I completely understand emergencies happen, but how is it possible that an entire Safeway bakery has only one cake decorator? I was also told the backup decorator was assigned to another store. This is a major service gap, and it absolutely impacts customers.
My event is less than 2 miles from this Safeway, and I drove over 20 miles specifically to place this order because I needed photo decorations and wanted to pick up the cake close to my venue for safe transport. This situation created unnecessary stress and inconvenience.
On top of that, the bakery staff was laughing and smiling while I was trying to speak with the manager, and the manager’s attitude came across as inconsiderate and unprofessional. The customer service I experienced was unacceptable. The team clearly needs proper training on professionalism and how to handle service disruptions.
As a business owne, I know the importance of preparation and customer care. You always have a backup plan — especially for something as essential as pre-ordered cakes.
I’m honestly shocked that customers are treated this way.

Go out of their way to order meds if they aren’t available there yet because other stores in the area can’t get them for 3 days but they can usually in 1 day
