Phil is a fantastic listener and has helped to equip me with the proper tools to be a better communicator in my relationships and has challenged me to be introspective in ‘controlling what we can control’.

What are your specialties/qualifications?
I have a M.Ed from Western Washington University in School Counseling. I worked with students and families for ten years before switching to individual and couples therapy.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Arizona and have specialized training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
I am uniquely equipped to help individuals and couples work on better recognizing and experiencing their emotions in a healthy way.
Most importantly I am happily married to my wife and a proud father to our three daughters.
How much are sessions? What about insurance? Do you take cash?
Individual sessions are $175 for a 50 minute session and Couple’s sessions are $250 for an 80 minute session.
I do not accept insurance at this time but I am happy to provide you with an invoice as some insurance companies will reimburse you.
I accept credit cards or cash.
No Show/Cancellation Policy?
A cancellation is considered late when the appointment is cancelled less than 24 hours before the appointed time. A no-show is when a client misses an appointment without cancelling. In either case, a missed appointment is billed at the full rate.
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule an appointment on this website by clicking the “schedule now” button on the website or email at phil.merrell@joinerytherapy.com or by calling (928) 239-7476.
Do you work with kids?
At this time I am focusing on adults only and work with men, women and couples.
What does a typical session look like?
Our first session will be a brief overview of the process, covering informed consent and paperwork, and a chance for us to get to know each other better.
I will do my best to make sure you feel heard and supported, but also am not afraid to lovingly point out blind spots or areas of growth you may not be aware of.
Why should I trust you?
I believe I have something to offer in the way of helping couples and individuals and my path has led to the creation of Joinery Therapy.
I am also happily married to my wife of 7 years and we are raising three daughters together.
Before I worked as a couple’s and individual therapist I was a school counselor for 10 years. I also had the opportunity to commercial fish and drive tour buses in Alaska.
As trust is difficult to describe and quantify, I offer a free 15 minute consultation for you to have a chance to meet with me in person and see if we would be a good fit.
