I had a horrible experience with Brandy, phlebotomy tech, Rm 1. I arrived at 10a on a Monday and I was unfortunate to get her. She has no customer service skills. I was shocked at she lack of professional and disregard for my safety. Being in the medical field, I was appalled and felt unsafe. When I entered the room, she asked for my lab orders. I had two. I handed them to her. She entered the paperwork into the computer and stated that I would have to come back between 7a & 9a for one of the test. I took my phone out to jot down the reminder. She came over to the chair and said, "You can't have phones out in here". No problem. I finished typing the brief reminder and put the phone up.
She put on gloves, without washing or sanitizing her hands! Then she grabbed a tray and proceeded to put tubes, cotton squares, and a tournique on it. She inspected my arm then wiped an area with a alcohol wipe. Afterwards, she reached into a drawer to get a butterfly needle and casing. I had bloodwork done 2 days prior, so instead of searching for a vein she went into the same spot as the previous tech. Guess what, it was a bad poke for that tech and it was a bad poke for her. She withdrew and poked and missed again. I told her, "You went into the exact same spot as previous tech who missed instead of looking for the vein. She grabbed the other arm. searched for a vein, locate it, clean the area, then leave to get the needle and prep it. When she returns she forgets where the vein is, inserts the needle and MISSES. As one with phlebotomy experience, I attempted to give pointers as to minimize the number of times she had to stick patients. She wouldn't even acknowledge my statement. Missed again in that arm. Twice. Arrrgh. No apologies from her as she wiggled the needle trying to find a vein with the tip of the needle inserted to the hilt. No one wants to look like a drug addict with tracks up and down both arm a after getting bloodwork done.
After she got the blood, she folded a cotton square and told me to hold it at the site. Instead of finishing the arm by applying a bandage, she returned to her desk and proceeded to print labels. I grabbed my purse and put it in my shoulder while she was applying the labels to the tubes. I threw the cotton square in the trash. She stated, you're suppose to keep that on for 20 minutes. I stated that she should have applied the bandaid after the blood draw and prior to returning to her desk to print and apply labels. She cared nothing about being sanitary. Sonora's policy should be quality over quantity. I'm so scary to return to complete the rest of my tests.
Huge parking area. Accessible parking and entrance.
