One member of our party ordered a medium-rare steak. It arrived clearly rare, cold in the center with a bright red interior. We sent it back, and when it returned, it was very well done instead. Given that the steak was a $45 entrée and our total bill was close to $300, we expected greater care. Additionally, another dish’s fish breading was undercooked to the point of being soft and mushy rather than crisp. What was most frustrating, however, was that no staff member acknowledged the issues or checked back with us after the corrections. Mistakes happen in any kitchen, but being heard and taken seriously makes a significant difference in the overall experience.

The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, giving a feeling of a north woods supper club. For drinks we enjoyed a Teddy Bear Picnic Mule and a glass of Santa Rampage, the beer that accompanied the Burger of the Month, which was the French onion with caramelized onions, mushrooms , and Gruyère. It was a fantastic flavor and wouldn’t change a thing. To start, though, we ordered the cheesy french onion appetizer which was delicious and could have been its own entree. Also had the tavern burger which was also so perfectly flavorful. The steak fries were quite palate-pleasing and so well-made. Our server, Emmaline, was a delightful wealth of knowledge, able to answer all the silly questions from a couple of newbies, and provided top-notch service. Decided we needed to gift some family with this experience and bought gift cards for Christmas. Cannot wait to go back.
