My family and I went out as a treat after having a very busy two weeks moving. My daughter's food and my food came out fine. My husband ordered a ribeye, asked for medium rare, but was given a gray steak, no sear marks, and still dark red, clearly raw in the middle. The waiter took it back, brought out a new steak about 3-4 minutes later, watched while my husband cut into it to see that it was basically the same as the first steak. Our waiter insisted on taking it back, and the manager finally brought him a 3rd steak about 10 minutes later, this one had some actual color on it and cooked to almost rare, which was fine at that point because we were both embarrassed at the ordeal it caused. The waiter was attentive and kept our drinks filled, but I don't think we'll return to this Outback Steakhouse because clearly their kitchen was having issues cooking their steaks.

I will start by saying that I have fond memories of the Outback Steakhouse. For me, it was a fancier outting than an Applebees or Olive Garden. Tonight, I wish I would have just gone to a McDonald’s. You know it’s off to a bad start when it takes 10 minutes just to get water, in a room that isn’t even full. When the steaks came out I was so disappointed. The Outback steaks that I’m used to were thick and well cut, not 80% fat and thin. I requested medium and got a well done steak, my husband asked for medium rare and got a medium well. We were never provided a refill on our water either. The coconut shrimp were good, but that’s about it. I’m just so disappointed, the Outback used to be a place to go and celebrate. However this particular location is depressing, gives the impression that the Outback has given up completely. I’d highly advise going somewhere else.

The Outback Steakhouse in Snohomish is less a restaurant than a social experiment in how much neglect a human will tolerate in exchange for a $34.99 ribeye. We’ve gone four times now, which says more about our self-loathing than it does about the food. Each visit begins the same: a cheerful greeter seats you, and then the simulation breaks. Twenty-five minutes of staring at laminated menus, thirst creeping into your bones, no water, no bread, no acknowledgement that you exist. When the food arrives—eventually—it’s fine. Edible. Even decent value in this age where everything costs six bucks more and comes out two ounces smaller. You can’t knock a restaurant for keeping a full plate at a fair price. But value alone can’t disguise service that feels like punishment. The other night, I watched an older woman send back her undercooked steak. The waitress, without irony, returned with a charred slab of flesh, dropped it on the plate like a UPS package, muttered “sorry,” then immediately went to gossip ten feet away. No eye contact. No care. Just contempt served medium-well. And yet we keep going back. Gluttons for punishment, masochists in khakis, staggering through the automatic doors again like hostages returning to their captor. Because one day, maybe, the service won’t be abysmal. One day, someone might even bring water in under half an hour. Until then, Snohomish Outback remains a monument to indifference—a steakhouse where hope goes to die.
