The World Famous Canter's Deli Started in Jersey City in 1924 and then moved to Los Angeles in 1931.
Have been open 24 hours since 1953. We are known for having the Best Breakfast in Los Angeles since 1931. We are also famous for our Pastrami, Corned Beef. Rye Bread, Salads, Burgers, Matzo Ball soup, Potato Pancakes, and bakery items. We bake all of our own breads and pastries in on site.
Went here after shopping and honestly it was such a good stop. The whole place has that old school LA feel and I loved that they kept all the neon signs and vintage atmosphere intact. It feels classic in a way that doesn’t feel forced or overly trendy.
The staff was really friendly and welcoming, the food came out fast, and the prices were surprisingly fair. It was the perfect place to sit down and recharge for a bit before heading back out. Definitely one of those spots that makes the whole day feel more fun.

The overall atmosphere was comfortable, cozy, and welcoming, making it a perfect place to stop for a quick lunch after shopping nearby. The service was efficient, the food came out quickly, and the pricing felt very fair for both the portion sizes and the location.
Places with this much history and personality are getting harder to find in Los Angeles, so it’s nice to see Canter’s still maintaining what makes it special. Definitely a spot worth coming back to.

Old time deli has been around for ages. Lots of traditional Jewish delights. Recently introduced my teen son and he loves the sandwiches and matzo soup. The area unfortunately has become really sketchy though. Not cool like it once was. Run down just like Melrose is a wasteland now. This area was once a cool spot where we would go on dates and meet friends in the 90s-2015 or so. I hope it recovers someday. I guess everyone just goes to the Grove or 3rd.

Great, hearty, and flavorful sandwiches! Friendly service, and a historical "Hollywood" landmark! What's not to love? You can literally see and feel the almost 100-year old history of the building when you sit down to eat. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, even the ones who weren't assigned to my table. The last time I came here, they were filming a tv show in part of the restaurant, so it was closed off. But they still let us patrons in to dine. I ordered the Pastrami Reuben and the Corned Beef Reuben. If you are torn between the two, I suggest the Corned Beef Reuben; it is slightly better, although both are good! Of the ones I tried, my favorite side options ranked are: 🏆1 - onion rings (plus $1.50), 2 - Fries (needed salt) 3 - potato salad (too sweet).
