We had reservations for a large party, but when we arrived, the restaurant already felt like it was shutting down—as if everyone was ready to go home. Not a great way to start the New Year.
The gumbo arrived cold, and we had to ask for all three orders to be reheated. Who wants to eat cold gumbo? To make matters worse, my entrée—red beans and rice with sausage—was also cold, and the sausage was clearly undercooked. It had a charred exterior for presentation, but inside it was not fully cooked. The beans, rice, and sausage were all cold, and I eventually had to throw the dish away.
The flavors were mediocre at best, if not outright bad, and definitely not what you would expect from an establishment like Babin’s. We’ve had much better food and service at the Katy location, but this location was hands down horrible. The service was below average, and even after the staff was made aware of the issues, nothing improved.
To top it off, the salad—which comes with the meal—was the only thing served warm. Who serves a warm salad?
Unfortunately, this experience ensured that we will never return to or recommend this Babin’s location. Being on vacation, this ended up being the worst part of our trip. New Year guys do better

We've been to Babins 3 times and have never been disappointed. The food is always good. I'd like to especially give a shout out to our waitress Bri, who was exceptionally friendly and made our dining experience even better!

Food allergies beware! The place has great food but no details about what’s in the food. The waiters are also unclear if food is safe. Our child needed a high chair they put a high chair down then told us it was against policy and safety to have a high chair with a booth. When worried about the rice for food allergy reasons - the manager didn’t apologize but told us “anytime seafood is served it’s our responsibility to ask if red meat is in it”. Although only seafood was ordered. They remade dish but made us feel it was our fault we had no idea here in Houston rice had meat in it. With that being said everyone was nice but no one was genuinely apologetic for the food allergy mistake. We learned our lesson. Get manager asap - to speak about menu.

My first time here, visiting from out of state. Our server was Teresa. My girlfriend and I went in for a late lunch during the week. This worked out really well because my hearing is not that great, and I had a lot of questions.
Teresa had to explain to me what the King's cake espresso drink was... because I didn't know what a king's cake was. I do now! The drink is delicious, by the way. My girlfriend started with the Louisiana Sunset. She really enjoyed that. She's not a fan of drinks where you get the 'ethanol hit'.
For appetizers we had the crab balls, the stingrays, and fried alligator. I've had alligator before and these guys did a really nice job with it. It was not overcooked.
The crab balls were very good. They had a good filing of seafood with very little filler (in my opinion).
The stingrays were okay. I think the combination of flavors did a lot to overshadow the shrimp, so it was more like a jalapeno popper with added protein.
Teresa also brought out each of their dipping sauces, which was nice so we could try each of them. They all had their ideal pairings, though I found myself using the remoulade sauce the most. The fries were very good, which came with at least one of the appetizers. We had to stop eating them to have room for entrees.
For entrees, Teresa was again patient while I asked questions about their fresh seafood specials. They had a lot of seafood I was not familiar with, which I loved as I enjoy trying new foods.
I ordered the Amberjack, and took her recommendation of having it with the "Louisiana" topping.
With my entree, I had a Bulleit old fashioned. I was hoping they could have made a Vieux Carré, but they could not.
Amberjack is delicious. It is a 'dense' fish with a good flavor that stands up to toppings and sauces.
My girlfriend had the Crawfish half & half which is their crawfish etouffee and fried crawfish tails. She liked it quite a bit.
For dessert I had their "Cafe New Orleans" drink along with their bread pudding. The drink was good, bread pudding was very good. She had the Key Lime pie which she lived, and a moscato.
To go, I ordered the crawfish bisque and their seafood Jambalaya to have the next day. This is the only place where I had an issue - specifically with the jambalaya. There were a lot of shrimp shell and tail pieces in the dish. If it were all 'peel and eat' shrimp, it would have made a little sense, but that wasn't the case. So every few bites I was carefully moving 'stew-like' food around in my mouth so I could isolate the shell pieces and pluck/spit them out. It was the only down note. The bisque was good, even reheated.
