This review is a love letter to Uchi. An omakase dinner at Uchi is truly my death row meal. I would commit a concerning amount of crimes for the fried milk and I lament every day that goes by that I cannot have it for dessert. I don't even have pictures to attach to the review because I literally unhinge my jaw to inhale the glorious milk balls the second they're served to me. If this dessert is ever discontinued or taken off the menu, know that I will be Chef Tyson Cole's doorstep the morning after to riot, pitchfork and torch in hand.
I have tried numerous upscale sushi places over many years and many cities, but Uchi (specifically the Houston location, though I've been to the Dallas and Austin ones as well) still remains my favorite. Every experience I ever have here is perfect from start to finish. The service is great and the food is phenomenal. Even the vibe of the restaurant is so elegant but cozy. 10/10 all around :)

Sustain: Service was good, food was very delicious, quality control is present(they sent a dish back before i received it). The best cook was on the five spice duck, was cooked to perfection. I thought it funny they joked my buddy and I were having an anniversary. Good sense of humor. Improvements: the a5 wagyu with caviar and uni was so flavorful the only criticism would be that the wagyu was completely brown/overcooked. I expected a little pink in the center or even hoping for mid rare. The karaage was a little on the dry side but super crispy. Im nit picking a little but I'd definitely return

So to begin, this is the best premier sushi experience I've ever had. I am a common visitor to Uchi Austin and it does not compare to the quality and overall experience that Uchi Houston has to offer. Our server, Aisha was the sweetest, most attentive, and professional server I've had in a very long time (maybe even ever). She made our experience unforgettable and I can't wait to return and see her again. She was very knowledgeable of wine selections and the food she is selling as well. Super kind sushi bar staff as well. The building itself seemed to be a Texas Landmark which was very cool and in general, the building and the overall ambience in the establishment couldn't be any better. Absolutely Devine experience for date night!

I’ve been coming to Uchi at least once a month for nearly ten years, and I’ll keep this short: it is hands down the best restaurant in Houston, and without question the best sushi in the area. It is one of those rare places that never disappoints. The food isn’t just great—it’s amazing.
The service is extraordinary. The staff works seamlessly as a team: your water is always refilled without asking, plates are cleared promptly, and what’s most impressive is how deeply knowledgeable the servers are about the menu.
I won’t even recommend specific dishes, because you truly can’t go wrong with anything here. The only two things I’ll say are: don’t miss the Fried Milk (and if you’re lucky, you might even snag a pint to take home), and be sure to visit during happy hour, when they offer unique small bites not regularly on the menu and absolutely worth trying.

Me and my partner got the dinner/lunch for 2 at 120 and honestly while I did expect the portions to be small I wish they let us know we would share each dish instead of getting two dishes each when it says dinner for 2. wouldn’t mind paying double if we were gone to each get our own dish instead of sharing a plate that is awkward to share unless it is the two nigiri pieces. The service was very attentive and helpful but to point I would say too “helpful” they would be always refilling our water straight into our glasses since we don’t drink alcohol which was nice at first. But throughout the course the servers kept refilling the water straight into our glasses even when when I’m talking to my wife they would reach their hand over into my face and refill my water as soon as I take a sip of my water someone refills it even as I’m holding my glass. It’s annoying and distracting the experience to have someone breathing Down your neck and reaching between the conversation to fill my glass when I can do it myself like refill the water jug by all means but don’t go reaching in just to fill my glass of water when I just took a little sip talking to my wife. The food which is the most important part was disappointing I came in seeing a video on the place and was interested I looked at reviews both negative and positive saying the food was amazing or the food was subpar. This did not dissuade me I came in with the mindset the food would be unique or something delicious. Nope it was unfortunately lackluster the nigiri throughout the course was decent not bad not amazing. First was a cherry sherbet on a teaspoon weird for the first course but I assumed it was a pallet cleanser of some sort. Next was a lettuce wrap with daikon and a little messy with all the crispy bits on top wish it didn’t have it since they tasted burnt to me. The sauce was good though. Next was sashimi slices with tangerines now I’m open to mixing things but this was weird as eating together it doesn’t speak to me and felt awkward. After the first couple try’s I just ate them separately since it wasn’t good together. Next the main I believe was chilean bass in a sauce this was definitely our favorite as the fish was light and tender. For dessert we had coconut and lychee ice cream. Honestly I wish I loved this more than I did because coconut and lychee is one of my favorite fruits so obviously I would like this but no they added some crunchy nuts at the bottom which for some reason tastes bitter and burnt to me I assumed it was to contrast the sweetness and bitterness but it doesn’t work for us. These were our dishes besides the decent enough nigiri was the food amazing no was the terrible definitely not. Not too special not too bad I would describe our experience.
