Oheya, “the room” in Japanese, is tucked behind a discreetly marked door, where guests enter an intimate room and are greeted with omatenashi hospitality. Enjoy a chef‑curated and personalized menu served at a 12‑seat bar.
I found the atmosphere to be a bit sterile in here, there was also very little communication with the staff and servers. We did the happy hour omakase and it was so little food we had to order quite a few more handrolls to feel satiated.
The first dish - the Hirame Crudo was probably the worst dish served. The fish encased a sector of pineapple that tasted bland and somehow worse than canned pineapple?
Overall the experience was a disappointment and way overpriced. We love Uchi but this didn’t hold a candle to our experiences there.

What an experience!! for my first omakase, this definitely set the standards high. I was able to snag one of the happy hour seatings, loved all of it. i got the Lychee martini, yummy. I ended up ordering a 2nd piece of the shima Aji, but the chutoro blue fin was 2nd favorite, and the akami 3rd. I’ll definitely be back again for a larger tasting.

The Happy hour omakase is definitely a steal. It is a small location so it did feel a little snug. Overall I would definitely go back but only during Happy hour.

Very disappointing experience. We are avid sushi lovers, and went out to Oheya for a nice date night but left extremely underwhelmed. We did the Omakase (15p and 20p) and while the cuts of fish were nice, the sushi chefs were clearly not very experienced or refined. The main chef coated the sushi rice in coarse salt which overwhelmed every dish and got worse throughout the night as he never cleared his prep boards. The toppings like the wasabi and various zests were overwhelming and bitter and proportioned like someone who has never made sushi before. For the price, the lack of sophistication was shocking.
I got one drink that was a spicy rum and pineapple that was really nice. Also got an espresso martini that was pretty terrible.
Definitely will not be going back. There are many great sushi spots in Houston that are much more reasonable in price and have significantly better food.

The vibe was good. Omakase bar was quiet enough to talk but also lively
Sake options excellent
Quality fish - for sure
Service - was good
No sake pairing with the omakase
Inexperienced chefs - definitely… the way the fish were handled was not good. All types of fish got cut/sliced without the knife getting wiped in between. Rice was stored in plastic takeout containers and the same goes for the other ingredients right on the bar. Our chef was unsure which fish is what and which dish was next even when he already has a “checklist” for all to see. Also spilled ingredients on the bar.
Pace is the same whether people got 15 or 20 courses. Had another group who ordered 15 and we ordered 20 and we had some cooked dishes in between that we had to eat fast otherwise the next nigiri would have just sat on our plate for a while.
Bill at the end of the experience was too much for what we actually got. Would not come back for the price vs. quality of the omakase overall. I would just stick to going to Uchi really
Redeeming quality was the attitude and how they tried to make it a fun place.
