The food is delicious. Always a great experience when I shop groceries. However this was the first time checking out with food and the cashier Priscilla was RUDE. Made me feel uncomfortable.

I have been coming to Central Market just by myself, with my immediate family, or with my boyfriend for a couple of years now. I have generally had pleasant experiences here until today.
Since starting graduate school this past August, I have been frequently visiting Central Market to utilize the free WiFi, to purchase pre-made foods, and to sit upstairs to complete schoolwork. This has been convenient for me since I struggle to concentrate alone at home or at a library since it gets way too quiet and understimulating. My campus is also a bit out of the way, but Central Market is super close by from where I live.
However, today, my boyfriend and I were quietly studying upstairs at the seating area until we were approached by an employee or manager (??) named Cody. He told us that backpacks were not allowed in the store because of theft. I asked him when this policy was implemented, and Cody replied by saying that this has always been the case??? I have never been told this before- I carry a backpack as a student with my journal, laptop, headphones, etc. My boyfriend does the same thing with his backpack. I even told my mom this evening about the backpack policy and she was just as confused- she has lived in Fort Worth and has gone to Central Market for longer than I have been alive.
I figured that this policy could have been implemented due to a potential increase in petty theft caused by the Arlington Heights high school students, but still, there was no sign at the entrance regarding this policy, ever, and nothing on the Central Market website indicated this rule either. This seemed like bs.
If you are going to enforce a rule, make sure all employees enforce it consistently all the time and make sure shoppers know it. Do not just approach customers, pretending that a policy has always been a thing when it hasn't been, telling them to leave their backpacks outside (it was raining when this happened). Make sure the employees at the front behind the desk catch backpack carriers.
This policy was carried out in a highly unprofessional manner. I don't even know if a large tote bag is allowed at this point because I need to carry my laptop in to do schoolwork. I don't even mind having my backpack searched at this point- I have nothing to hide. I don't just hang around the store for schoolwork, I always purchase things while there. This whole ordeal was super inconvenient to deal with, and I don't want to return here again, as disappointing as it is

I have been coming here for the better part of 20 years. Things always change, like no more family restroom, but one thing that should never change in any store of this caliber is the level of service. Elizabeth in the coffee and gelato area is one of the rudest and most condescending workers at Central Market I have ever dealt with in my life. This is THREE times now. I guess third time is a charm.
I’m only leaving this after the third time of trying to deal with her ordering coffee, And you would think that she thinks everyone is stupid and doesn’t know what in the world they’re doing. She may be trying to sweet and nice, but being bothered is hard to hide. Kinda sucks when you just want a cup of drip coffee and an enjoyable shopping experience. Don’t worry Elizabeth, I will no longer to continue to darken your doors in your special area and buy coffee.
Central Market managers, please try to do a little better when hiring employees that are a little more welcoming, and not so condescending against people just trying to enjoy shopping experience on a nice Fall afternoon.

I recently had an appalling experience at Central Market, one that has ensured I will never spend another penny there. This particular place was where I frequently purchased my meats, but after the treatment I received, I can no longer support a business that employs such racist individuals.
When I went in to buy some chicken, I asked the butcher if he could cut it up for me. From the moment I approached him, he wore a nasty look on his face, as if he was offended by having to serve us. As soon as I requested that he cut up the chicken, his demeanor worsened. He became visibly upset, mumbling under his breath and slamming the chicken on the counter, repeatedly muttering profanities. His actions made it clear that he was not happy about serving Black customers.
The situation escalated to the point where I fainted. When I regained consciousness, I asked my wife what had happened during the time I was out. She told me that the meat clerk had stopped serving us and proceeded to help the next customer, without even checking to see if I was okay. It was only when I stood up that I saw him, smiling and happily serving his white customers, a stark contrast to how we were treated.
This behavior was both shocking and painful, as the clerk displayed a level of racism I had never encountered before. He treated the white customers with smiles and enthusiasm, but when it came to me and my wife, who is also Black, we were met with frustration and hostility. This experience underscored a harsh reality: that some people still can't see past the color of one's skin, despite the fact that we are all made in the image of God.

It’s fantastic that everything we need is in one place! However, I’ve been having a little trouble printing out the bread label. It seems like the instructions need an update to print out the label for fast check out. It’s a bit odd because I can print labels for other sections without any problems, but the bread section is a bit of a mystery. Let’s keep exploring ways to make things even better!
