You will not leave hungry or broke. Original location has a wait on game days. Other times during the week, no wait. Definitely worth the wait. Onion rings were a wonderful surprise. Friends talked up the sandwiches all month and lived up to the praise. Butcher quality sandwiches for a similar price of fast food. Unbelievable!Excellent customer service as well! A must visit in Strip District!

Fellow travelers, when in Pittsburgh, please visit the original location of Primanti Bros, the definitive Pittsburgh food experience. This location is charmingly decorated with cartoon images of Pittsburgh favorites and greats across all fields from entertainment to sports.
You can enter the place and grab a seat wherever you like, we recommend sitting at the bar if your party can find the space. We visited on a Monday evening and there was plenty of seating space available.
During our visit, we ordered the following:
- Cheese Fries
- Hot Homemade Chili Bowl
- Pitts-Burger #2 Best Seller
- Almost Famous Roast Beef Sandwich
- Draft IC Light
Our favorite item was the Hot Homemade Chili Bowl. The sandwiches were both tasty, we liked the bit of saltiness from the roast beef.
All sandwiches come with tomato, fries, and coleslaw. The coleslaw was oil and vinegar based and the fries in both sandwiches were not mushy with good taste and consistency.
The excelent service, down to earth setting, quality sandwiches, and local atmosphere certainly encapsulates the Steel City in the best possible way. Definitely recommend!

Came to visit Pitt university from five hours away and was told this was the spot to be to eat. My boyfriend and I got there around 2:30 the food was great and it wasn’t too busy so sandwiches came out quick and apps were yummy. However this place has the worst service I have ever had in my life and I am super forgiving because I am also a waitress myself. I ordered a sweet tea, it came out as either coke or root beer, and the syrup was out so it was just brown seltzer. No big deal, easy fix simple mistake; but she never came to check on us again. The food runner ended up getting me another drink while our waitress swept the dining area and ignored us. She walked past us a few times without ever asking if we needed anything. The fifth or sixth time she walked past us and dropped our check without saying anything at all. Eventually after waiting for boxes for how long we wrapped it up in the paper it was served in and left. Felt unwelcome the entire time. Don’t waste your money.

If you want the original gigantic sammich with the taste of the og grill from when they 1st opened this is the place. Avoid football weekends unless your there at open or want to wait 60-90 mins to sit. Great service and DO NOT ASK FOR FRIES or SLAW ON THE SIDE!!!. Don't disrespect their family heritage like that. I recommend the capicola, turkey, roast beed, or capone!
Grab a pickle and a coke, and see who all is painted inside on the walls. If yoy go weekedays you can even park i one of 5 spots. And you need to use the badement batheoom, do so before you eat. Its 14 steps down and up. If you eat at other Primanti's theyre trash compared to the original. And, its cheapest full meal in town.

All right, I am going to say it – I absolutely do not understand the hype around these sandwiches. On a recent trip to Pittsburgh before heading to a Steelers game, my dad, my husband, and I felt that we had to do the quintessential Pittsburgh thing and get a Primanti Bros sandwich.
I ordered what essentially was a burger-sandwich (the Pittsburgh sandwich) while my dad and my husband tried the pastrami sandwich.
When the sandwiches arrived, we were blown away by how massive in size they were. Luckily, the bread is very soft and compacts down so that you can actually pick up the sandwich and take a reasonable bite.
But without some sort of notable sauce or anything, we all felt that the sandwiches were extremely dry and unremarkable. Adding french fries did not help with the dryness but exacerbated it. I got so desperate I ended up dunking my Pittsburgh sandwich in ketchup just to have enough moisture to get it down.
Again, if someone could please explain to me what the hype is around these sandwiches I would greatly appreciate it.
Service was fast, but it’s Pittsburgh so it wasn’t very friendly. The space gave off a sports bar type vibe. I’m glad I tried it so that I could say I have but I highly doubt I would ever come back.
