Bete-Lukas has the best Ethiopian food in the greater Portland Metro area. I’ve been dining here for at least 15+ years, and nowhere in town has food this consistently good! The owner, Peter, is charming and delightful, full of good-natured teasing, and remembers his frequent customers, often by name. He has an excellent understanding of vegan and vegetarian dishes, and I think all of the veggie dishes are either already vegan or can be modified to be so. We usually get the veggie combo, some veggie or lentil sambusas, and may add on an extra veggie side or two. Everything is flavorful, fresh, and delightfully spicy. I can’t recommend the place highly enough!

I went to Bete-Lukas to be a friend for a birthday dinner. There was no wait for a table. The server who was also the owner, was extremely knowledgeable about the dishes. Their matter-of-fact delivery was well-balanced by a slight playfulness about what to order and what would be the best experience for my first time eating Ethiopian food. It was even better, that they were spot-on with their recommendations. I highly recommend taking the time to visit this restaurant. We went on an evening where we had a little bit of time to enjoy the food.
