I don’t like leaving negative reviews, however I know this location is new so hopefully this feedback can be of value. My family & I were excited to try ESM as it was a place both my wife & I went to as kids so the anticipatory nostalgia was there. We were seated promptly, but once that happened the service was probably the worst I’ve ever had during a dining experience. Tables arriving after us were promptly receiving their salads & bread, albeit they had different servers, but we had to ask for bread twice before receiving a loaf after ordering 3 entrees. Our salads took even longer and didn’t arrive until our entrees came. When the salads did arrive, they were dry, and despite asking for parmesan, our server never returned with it. Salads also had numerous large chunks of salad that wasn’t chopped. The kitchen didn’t send our kids meal with our entrees and we had to wait an additional 10 minutes for chicken fingers & fries. Typically kids meals come out first or at the same time as entrees. My wife’s entree had chicken in it despite asking for it to be held, and overall both pasta entrees were bland and dry with a lot of pasta stuck together. During the remainder of our time there we asked for a 2nd loaf of bread and didn’t receive it until we were finished our entrees (20+ minutes), despite other tables around us having servers replenish their bread continuously. We also asked for drink refills and never received them. We finally just decided to ask for our bill & left. We did mention the entree error and the chicken charge was removed. Unfortunately the anticipated nostalgic experience was a let down and we will not be returning.
We visited this East Side Mario’s on a Saturday around 4:30 pm. It wasn’t overly busy when we arrived, though there were several tables already filled. We waited about five minutes for a table, and initially service seemed fine, our drink and food orders were taken in a timely manner. While we waited for our food, the restaurant became busier with lots of people coming in.
I ordered the chicken parmesan, which I’ve had many times at other East Side Mario’s locations. The chicken itself was just fine (not hot) and just warm, but the spaghetti was actually cold. Cold enough that the sauce had started to dry out and the noodles were sticking together. It was very disappointing and not the quality I expect from this restaurant.
I had also ordered a garden salad with my meal the dressing on the side. When the salad was brought to the table, the dressing was already on it. As I was about to mention it, the waitress said, “Oh yeah, sorry, they already put the dressing on this one,” and then asked if I wanted to just keep it or they will have them make me new one. The way it was presented made me feel uncomfortable, like it was an inconvenience to ask for it to be remade, and she quickly rushed away. I ended up keeping it even though it wasn’t what I had ordered.
Another issue was with the kids’ drinks. They were brought out without lids, which I thought was standard practice at East Side Mario’s. My five-year-old was given a cup of apple juice filled to the brim, which of course is difficult for a child to manage without spilling.
The biggest issue, though, was how rushed we felt throughout the meal. Near the end, while I still had about half a cup of iced tea, waitress asked if she could clear our drinks. I told her no, that I was still drinking it. Then, while I was still actively eating (literally mid-bite), she came back and asked if I wanted takeout containers. We weren’t lingering longer than any normal meal, and there were people seated beside us who had arrived before we did.
The atmosphere didn’t feel like a typical East Side Mario’s, the staff overall seemed focused on moving people out rather than creating a relaxed dining experience. When we first sat down, I showed the Mini Marios meal cards, and the waitress said she would take them when we paid. However, the bill was brought to us without anyone asking for or taking the cards. Had we known the bill was coming, I would have handed them over. She just apologized and did nothing.
The manager did eventually come over (I guess we looked not too happy) and reimbursed about $20 for the kids’ meals, which was appreciated, though it wasn’t the full amount. Overall, the food quality, service, and atmosphere were well below what I expect from East Side Mario’s. Unfortunately, it was a poor experience and not one I’m eager to repeat at this location.
