Part gourmet grocery store, part candy shop—since 1910 family-run Richards Maple Products has celebrated all things maple syrup in the heart of Chardon, Ohio, one of the country’s top maple syrup-producing regions. Today owned by fourth generation brother and sister Jen Freeman and Matt Barham, and Fred Ahrens, the operation lives up to its tagline: “If it’s maple we have it!” Over the years the sweet shop, which is housed in a charming yellow building, has evolved to offer award-winning maple syrup-based products like maple flavored coffee, maple sauces, maple jerky, jams, seasonings, rubs, spreads, snacks and ice cream. Most of our 150+ products are made from scratch on the property with clean ingredients and no high fructose corn syrup.

    The products are 5/5 stars. I have ordered online and purchased in person several times over the last 15 years. Between my family and i we have literally spent thousands here over the years. One order had 4 5 gallon buckets of syrup plus a huge variety of everything else they sold. So the reason for the 2 stars… I placed an order as a gift for someone it needed to arrive quickly because their housewarming was coming up. But I ordered about a month in advance which was mid-late August. The order arrived about August 30…but only 2/3 products were there. I sent an email regarding this. I get it no problem I still had some time. No response…. So 1-2 weeks later I emailed again. 4 days later I finally got an email back this was on Sep 19. Saying “ Im sorry about that. We'll get it shipped out to you” from Penny. I replied back “ It’s okay mistakes happen I appreciate your help there :)”. Now October 9th no delivery no more info no follow up tracking number etc… so I again email asking the status. Shocker- no response. So I just called today October 14. The girl who answered listened as I explained the situation very kindly and just asked about where the missing item was and an eta…and she says they have a picture my delivery already happened. She ignored I guess when I was explaining that I am missing the second part of the order. She huffs and goes and checks again and says oh we will send it to you today. So at this point honestly now I’m a little annoyed and told her, look I get it I work in retail but this is frustrating that you guys haven’t even sent it when you said a month ago it would be shipped… and that’s making up for it being missed in the first place. Now she says oh there was a shortage so we probably didn’t send it because we were out. So I said, I get it but then in that case some communication letting me know would have really helped from your side. She said mistakes happen and it’s someone else who does that not her. Ok well I’m saying as a whole the company could communicate better than not you personally. Now my best friends home warming is long gone and really had the order been correct the first time it wouldn’t be a problem or if I had gotten a response to my emails etc etc or a call to let m know it’s delayed… She was now clearly mad and just said “ya ok” I was not mean or rude or aggressive just asking for better customer service politely and asked if I could get the tracking number or confirmation number for proof they are sending today. She angrily said “if your emails the same she’ll send you something” Which given the past history hard to believe. So o get it mistakes happen totally fine but to ignore all my emails besides 1, and never reach out about supposed delays… a MONTH delay after waiting a month already… like come on people just do better I love there products it’s been great in the past but just be aware if you do run into a problem even after being a loyal customer… and being polite and very understanding and kind. expect the same worst customer service. And to never get any sort of ownership of their mistake or apology just a rude excuse and lack of ownership and understanding. Sad

    The barbeque sauce was wonderful and the hot sauce was hot . I loved it.

    I couldn't have been happier to have found this place! I love maple store products never have enough deep maple taste for me, but this place is fantastic! The very dark syrup is amazing and the maple puffs only made it a few days in the house! The candy is deep rich maple flavor. Cannot recommend enough!

    We love the syrup, and the maple candies and always have a fun time in this store picking up something new. My kids loved the barbecue sauce and we keep the Maple Cinnamon Sugar as a treat on toast, pancakes and sometimes peanut butter sandwiches! Very cute local store.
