Known as Ohio’s premier cheese and chocolate destination, Grandpa’s Cheesebarn and Sweeties Chocolates is located right off Interstate 71 midway between Cleveland and Columbus—making it one of the state’s most popular visitor attractions.
You’ll find everything from Ohio cheese and imported cheese, to smoked meats and pickled products, to homemade ice cream and chocolates.
A top-tier cheese house, we offer samples of 100-plus varieties of local cheese, including favorites like Ohio Swiss and Maple Bacon Cheddar, along with flavorful smoked cheese like Gouda and Habanero Cheddar.
Founded in 1978 in Ashland, we make our own cheese spreads, baked goods, chocolates, fudge and ice cream, as well as smoke cheeses, bacon and other meats on-site.
Open seven days a week, the store also has gift shop, deli and café, where you can grab coffee and a breakfast pastry or homemade sandwiches and old-fashioned hot dogs for lunch.
A charming courtyard connects the cheese barn to the chocolate shop, offering plenty of places to relax and snap memorable photos next to grandpa’s classic 1950s Chevy truck, whimsical caricatures and seasonal décor.
For those with a sweet tooth, don’t miss our ice cream shop, which serves up homemade flavors made with fresh cream and butter from nearby dairy farms, and our separate chocolate store filled to the brim with our famous homemade chocolates and fudge.
As one of the stops on the Ohio Buckeye Candy Trail, we are the perfect one-day getaway where you can sample an array of food items, taste the difference, and savor the experience.

This place is truly an amazing food experience. So much to choose from with endless possibilities. The staff are extremely helpful and also offer a sample in the fudge and cheese section. They had a sample of warm apple cider which is perfect for a cold day. Everything is clean and bright. I will definitely make a drive back. Bought several products which look absolutely yummy.

When you're on i-71 don't miss this place! Great place to pick up many things, especially cheese and enjoy Lord is samples too. Kids also love to walk around and enjoy sweeties next door, as this is an amazing chocolate place. Lots of candies and fudge. Some of the candies are old fashioned also.

I’m warning you before you go here, if you are passing through Ashland Ohio, this is the most dangerous pit stop I’ve ever made. I want to say I regret spending $90 on cheese but it was the best damn cheese I’ve ever had in my life. The thunder Jack cheese curds were so freaking addictive. The branch cheese (bacon and ranch) was heavenly, a burst of flavor in my mouth, and the sweetie pickles were outstanding. However, the sixth city maple cream soda I got from there, changed my life. I’m pretty sure I had an out of body experience from that soda, holy smokes! Anyways I naturally had to buy postcards, stickers, and a shirt and yes I will be visiting every time I pass through for the rest of my life. Cheesebarn addict for life, proudly.

Lots to choose from! Large selection of cheeses to taste test as well. It's in the line with the cashier though, so it does hold back and cause quite a bit of congestion. Staff that we encountered was super friendly both in the cheese shop and in the sweetery. Brought home lots of goodies from both, and took lots of fun pictures while we were there. We are an hour and a half away, and it was definitely worth the drive! I also love that they have old fashioned manual cash registers where the receipts are time stamped from the mid-1980s.

We had a wonderful time at Grandpa’s Cheesebarn! We stopped on a whim a year ago, and Hillary made our experience amazing. She provided exceptional knowledge of the cheese’s and the history of the business, offered a variety of cheeses to try, and helped us make purchases that delighted us with every bite after we got home. We have made Grandpa’s Cheesebarn an annual tradition and stopped to stock up on favorites today and had the joy of seeing Hillary. She once again made our day with her friendliness and great recommendations. People say Disney is the most magical place on earth, but they have obviously not been to Grandpas Cheesebarn. Everyone is happy to see you, makes you feel like you made their day by coming in and is super helpful!
