Known as Ohio’s premier cheese and chocolate destination, Grandpa’s Cheesebarn and Sweeties Chocolates is located right off Interstate 71 midway between Cleveland and Columbus—making it one of the state’s most popular visitor attractions. You’ll find everything from Ohio cheese and imported cheese, to smoked meats and pickled products, to homemade ice cream and chocolates. A top-tier cheese house, we offer samples of 100-plus varieties of local cheese, including favorites like Ohio Swiss and Maple Bacon Cheddar, along with flavorful smoked cheese like Gouda and Habanero Cheddar. Founded in 1978 in Ashland, we make our own cheese spreads, baked goods, chocolates, fudge and ice cream, as well as smoke cheeses, bacon and other meats on-site. Open seven days a week, the store also has gift shop, deli and café, where you can grab coffee and a breakfast pastry or homemade sandwiches and old-fashioned hot dogs for lunch. A charming courtyard connects the cheese barn to the chocolate shop, offering plenty of places to relax and snap memorable photos next to grandpa’s classic 1950s Chevy truck, whimsical caricatures and seasonal décor. For those with a sweet tooth, don’t miss our ice cream shop, which serves up homemade flavors made with fresh cream and butter from nearby dairy farms, and our separate chocolate store filled to the brim with our famous homemade chocolates and fudge. As one of the stops on the Ohio Buckeye Candy Trail, we are the perfect one-day getaway where you can sample an array of food items, taste the difference, and savor the experience. If you can’t stop by in person to peruse all the offerings, we ship our products and custom gift boxes to 48 contiguous states.

Cute place! So many cheese options to try! I’ve been looking for Jarlsberg spread everywhere in my home town…. They got it! So far- steakhouse onion was my fav and the pineapple habanero spread was right behind it. I’ll be back to try more 😉

I rushed over there with my girlfriend after I got off work.. Arrived at 5:35 and they were closed but it says they’re open till 6. Fix your hours on google if they aren’t going to be followed. Drove 35 minutes for nothing.

Purchased a 40 dollar bag of peppered beef jerky: it was absolutely disgusting and tasted like it was marinated in Italian tomato sauce meant for spaghetti and meatballs!!! This place has lost its luster and is obviously using cheap, low-grade ingredients to make more profit. Avoid this overpriced tourist trap and stick with trusted name brands: it will save you money and prevent a bad taste in your mouth.

Review of my recent online order experience: I recently ordered candy from this company. It is a very difficult type of candy to find, and I was so excited to find it available somewhere. It is called Honey Bee candy. That is what the picture shows on their website. It is a very specific brand and type of honey filled hard candy. They ended up sending me a candy that has a different name, a different type of wrap, and a different look to the candy itself. I called them to let them know that I did not get what I ordered and I do not want the candy I got. I spoke to someone who said her name was Mistie, and that she is the owner of the store. She assured me this is the same candy from the same manufacturer, they just updated their packaging (and evidently the entire look of the candy). Long story short, she said they would not take the candy back or refund my money, and I got what I ordered, so that was that. She did refer me to the store’s manager, Natalie, who said I was told that I could return the item for a credit, I would just need to pay for the shipping, so she didn’t know what else I wanted. I told her that Mistie specifically told me that I could not send the item back. I was happy to do so, but I did not think I should have to pay for shipping since I did not get the product I thought I was getting, which was on them. She said that was not an option. She also said that I did not talk to “Mistie”. I asked who I first talked to, and she would not give me her name. She said they do have a Mistie that works there, but she is not there today. I asked her how I would know the name Mistie unless the woman I just spoke to gave me that name. I live many states away and have never spoken to anyone there before. She just doubled down on that, it was truly bizarre. And evidently Mistie is the owner, and this women told me she is the owner. What the heck is going on? Did some random employee in shipping try to pass herself off as Mistie? I tried to research if perhaps the company that made the candy I wanted switched to the other type, and I can find nothing to support that. I think their supplier started sending them something else, and they are hoping their customers won’t care, and most probably won’t, but I do. I was willing to pay a lot for the candy I wanted, not a substitute. I never would have ordered this if they had the correct picture on their website. I got a sob story about how they don’t have time to update the pictures on all their items, and I would be totally understanding of that if they didn’t expect me to be the one to eat the loss on the mistake instead of them. I also could have ordered this same candy on Amazon a whole lot cheaper plus free shipping. That’s $12.99 vs $49.94, so yeah, it makes a big difference. They did go ahead and refund the amount I paid for the candy ($29.95), but not the shipping ($19.99). That still is $7 more than I would have paid on Amazon, and again, it is a different product, one that I don’t want, so no, I am not eating that shipping in exchange for the far inferior candy they sent me. This was all so strange. They could not wrap their heads around the fact that this is a different product, that the error was on their side and not mine, and that the right thing to do was make me whole again. We all make mistakes, it’s not a big deal. But their refusal to make it right is. Integrity and reputation is so important in business. Why would someone jeopardize that for a few dollars? I just don’t get it.

The best bacon I have had in years comes from here!!! The onion steakhouse cheese is probably my favorite cheese but that’s a tough one to decide because it depends on what you are needing your cheese for! You really need to come and yes they let you sample cheese and many other items! The deli is delicious too so come hungry and grab a sandwich too because it will be made with good quality ingredients!
