Food was not very good and service was TERRIBLE. Probably the worst service I have had while in NYC multiple times.
Only good thing about this bar is a $10 Guinness.
I wouldn't recommend stopping at this place if visiting NYC.

Unfortunately, I did not get pictures of our drinks or food, but this place was good and had a warm, cozy atmosphere. We sat at the bar and immediately the bartender acknowledge that we were there and let us know in what order he would get to us. He was working alone, but still quite efficient. Sometimes all it takes is a moment for them to acknowledge your presence and that’s not always what we receive in the city. We both ordered a different type of salad one with chicken on top and one with salmon on top, both were delicious. The salmon was not overcooked and it flaked perfectly. We were also pleasantly surprised that the prices were reasonable for that area of town. Definitely on our list of spots to return to.

Here’s a NED-style review of White Oak Tavern (Chicago, IL):
---
✅ What Works Well
- Seasonal, Farm-to-Table Fare: Menu emphasizes local, sustainably sourced ingredients with elevated takes on American comfort food.
- Standout Dishes: The duck burger, bone marrow, and rotating small plates get frequent praise for flavor and presentation.
- Craft Cocktails + Whiskey Focus: Strong bar program with inventive cocktails and a solid whiskey/bourbon list.
- Cozy-Chic Ambience: Wood-accented interior, warm lighting — great for dates or intimate group dinners.
- Knowledgeable Staff: Service is often noted as attentive and well-informed about pairings and ingredients.
---
👎 What to Watch Out For
- Price Point: On the higher side, especially for portion sizes — expect upscale dining prices.
- Limited Menu: Small, curated menu may not suit picky eaters or those wanting more variety.
- Busy on Weekends: Can get crowded and noisy; reservations recommended for peak times.
- Not Ideal for Kids: It’s more adult-focused — not the best pick for families with small children.

Came before and service was cool, Called at 11:13 today to try and see if the kitchen was open, someone very sweet picked up the phone and said unfortunately no and a second later while still talking to the person I hear someone in the background saying JUST HANG UP ON THEM!! overall pretty rude and I won’t be coming again

What a lovely little place. I sat at the bar for a few drinks and had the (absolutely delicious) fish n chips. Finished with a Guinness, of course. Everything was excellent and Matt provided wonderful service. This was a very busy Saturday night, but there was still a relaxing friendly atmosphere. I also didn't feel rushed. There's no shortage of bars in the city, but I would honestly go out of my way to come back here. Highly recommend!
