The banana pudding is widely praised as delicious and a must-try, though some customers noted a decline in quality and consistency.
Service Quality
Customer experiences with service are mixed; while some found staff friendly and efficient, others reported rudeness and poor service.
Atmosphere
The bakery is described as small and crowded, with limited seating, making it more suitable for takeout rather than dining in.
Pricing Concerns
Several reviews mentioned that prices have increased while portion sizes and quality have decreased, leading to disappointment.
Product Variety
While the banana pudding is the standout item, other desserts like cupcakes and cheesecakes received positive mentions, although some were considered average.

I decided to give this bakery a try because I kept hearing amazing things about their banana pudding. Since I was already in New York, I figured why not? I walked in around 8:00 PM. There was a line, but it moved pretty quickly. I was joined by two others, and when we reached the counter, the service rep was very friendly and asked what we’d like.
I ordered a small banana pudding and a brownie. One person in my group ordered a small as well, and the other ordered a medium. We were all taken aback when they handed us the banana pudding at room temperature instead of pulling it from the cooler right behind them. That was the first red flag.
We all decided to try our puddings at the same time.
First—the smell. The banana pudding smelled amazing.
Second—the texture. It was soft, fluffy, and airy.
But then…the taste. It tasted like nothing. Just air, no flavor whatsoever. All three of us were disappointed. The banana pudding was definitely overhyped and left us underwhelmed.
Now, on a positive note: the brownie was amazing.
Unfortunately, based on the banana pudding alone, I won’t be back.

Visited Magnolia Bakery and tried their famous banana pudding — my first time ever having any kind of pudding, and wow… it did not disappoint! The flavor was perfect: creamy, not too sweet, with just the right amount of banana pieces mixed in. Truly delicious.
The shop itself is small with limited seating, but that wasn’t a problem because you can easily take your treat over to the chairs and tables at Rockefeller Center nearby, which actually made the experience even nicer.
I definitely plan to return before my trip is over. Highly recommend!

The banana bread pudding is to die for. Honestly the review could end here and I’d be satisfied with how well I reviewed it but this place deserves some more. My first time in New York City and I was told by my cousin who had lived in NYC that I had to go Magnolia’s and get a banana bread pudding. So that I did. I got their seasonal apple crisp flavour and I got a size medium because that’s all they had. Man was I not disappointed. It was the best dessert I’ve ever tried.
The staff was a bit shy but opened up a bit when I explained I’m not from NYC. I also got a latte and so did my bestie. Hers was sweetened but she found it wasn’t sweet enough. Mine was unsweetened but I felt my dessert make up for the lack of sweetness and it was perfect that way!

Happily, we stumbled across this location while hoping to catch a glimpse of the Rockefeller Christmas Tree, which was shrouded in scaffolding.
We’ve had Magnolia bookmarked since watching a NY tourism video. They’re known for their banana pudding, so that’s what we ordered, along with a chocolate chip cookie.
The pudding was everything we had hoped it would be. The cookie was surprisingly good.
I half expected the container to be part shiplap… but that’s a different Magnolia brand.
And being a Saturday night, the location has a line out the door, but the system they work in this tiny location, moved us through in little time.

Wow. First off, the banana pudding was fantastic ! That being said, it was so good we went back again 5 minutes later to get more ! I can see why this place is so popular.
Major concern; I am posting my receipt as proof in case this individual denies interacting with us. Gianella M is by far one of the worst, toxic employees I’ve ever had to deal with in any service based industry in my life. Looks like the owner actually replies to these google reviews so I certainly do hope this individual is talked to.
To say this team member was “ rude “ is an understatement. The level of toxicity this individual portrayed was just to the point where I decided to allocate a portion of my night to write this review.
0 smile, 0 eye contact or acknowledgement was the definition of “ you are not welcomed at my restaurant “ behavior and attitude is the definition of disgusting and unacceptable.
Every guest, client that walks through these doors for this business should feel welcomed. When we asked a question, she didn’t even bother to answer and I could tell that she hated every minute of working there. And that energy had a negative impact on us. What is she trying to accomplish by spreading such negativity and hostility to guests ?
Let me ask, if you genuinely hate your job so much, why do you continue to work there ? Management, please speak with this individual. Gianella M’s behavior is not the example that you want to set for any business out there.
The banana pudding ? 10/10
Gianella M’s toxic, poisonous attitude that ruined our night ? I wish I could give you a negative 1000. What a shame
