I am not sure if it is always like this, but my experience today felt a little off. This was my first time at this location, although I have been to several other Capital One Cafés before.
When I was ordering, the staff member was texting on his phone and did not pay close attention to what I was asking. He did not ask about milk preferences or whether I wanted the bread warmed up. I also had to repeat most of my requests twice.
I gave them my bottle for the drink, so I was looking for it at the pick-up section. However, another barista called my name with a plastic cup. I told him I ordered it with my bottle, and he seemed confused and could not identify which one was mine. I said I could take the drink in the plastic cup, but I would like my bottle back. Eventually he returned it, but he was also on his phone during this.
When I tried the drink (the spicy matcha), it just tasted like watered-down milk. Even though I asked for light ice, the cup was full of ice and the matcha flavor was barely noticeable.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience.

There’s a few Capital One cafes here in New York but this place is our go-to. It is spacious with so many seating areas and we frequent this place on weekends to read books, casually hang out or do some other online learnings. The location is perfect too, being next to a train stop, Bloomingdales (for shopping) and Central Park. A shout out to their staff manning the security too — you guys are always very welcoming.

I don’t want to sound harsh, but this place really needs to improve its service system. Once you get your order, things move fairly quickly, but the main issue is the lack of anyone consistently working the cash register. Every morning I stop by for coffee, there’s always a long line because no one is managing the register — even though there are about 5 or 6 people behind the counter. If someone is at the register, they’re usually refilling pastries instead of taking orders.
This is NYC — people are in a rush to get to work, and waiting 10–15 minutes for a simple coffee order is frustrating. If this continues, there should at least be an app for mobile ordering. The customer service really needs some attention, and the system overall could use much better organization.
