The only negative of my experience was it forced me to go to the Rio, but because of High Steaks... I would go back. 1. Decor - I had never been in the prior place, but this is somewhere the view is all you need. The booths, tables, lighting, etc. all do exactly what they should - get out of the way of the view. With that said, they used a local artist to paint a stunning mural around the center wall of the room. Really well done. Less is more sometimes. 2. Service - they have union labor, but you actually wouldn't know. Everyone we encountered seemed to really be invested in making it a special dining experience from beginning to end... which is often not the case w/ union spots (sad fact). So props to leadership of this restaurant for creating that culture! 3. Food - James Trees has really made a unique steakhouse here. It's not chef-tweezer type food, but thoughtful classics done his way. The steak tartare is with a blend of wild game... delicious and not to be found anywhere else. Crabcakes... another unique take, but I appreciated the differenced because of how great they tasted. Top to bottom of the menu, I enjoyed everything we had. Pastrami bacon, yum. Two different pastas, the bread and butter, salad, lobster bisque, NY Strip, Elk Chop, Mac & Cheese, Scalloped Potatoes, Creamed Spinach, and desserts... all were worthy of a re-order, and boxing each and every crumb to take home for later. 4. Just go - I think the pricepoint for this place is what sets it apart from other steakhouses. Young couples needing a special first date without breaking the bank, or friends in town wanting a steakhouse dinner without wasting their gambling money at the table... this is great choice. Locals... free valet & parking! Also, the view makes for a great IG post, which everyone apparently needs these days.

We had the pleasure of eating here on Halloween and it did not disappoint, yes we came in costume. I love the way you are greeted downstairs to board the elevator with a view to the restaurant. Once you arrive the hostess addresses by name, very nice touch, and then she escorts to your table through this gorgeous dining room. Once we were seated you have the best view I have ever seen in Las Vegas! Paco came by and made sure we were taken care of, he did not miss a beat. Paco had mentioned that we must go out on the patio to see the view..OMG!!! Do not pass this up. Our server James was fantastic and Caelan was outstanding. We are not drinkers, but it looked like they had a big selection of wines and cocktails. The hamburger and salsbury steak were really good and I am looking forward to our next trip in January to try the steaks.

As a Las Vegas local, and rabid fan of James Trees' Esther's Kitchen ever since it opened, I had very high hopes and expectations for High Steaks. Those hopes faded early with the bread. The mustard spread was not great at all and it went downhill from there. The Lobster Chowder was very thin and seriously lacking lobster. Lots of potatoes, very little lobster. And then my steak...I ordered the queen cut prime rib and the applewood smoke was so overpowering it hardly tasted like any Prime Rib I have ever had and not in a good way. Also, I ordered it medium rare and other than the crust, 80% of the $70 steak was blue. The sides were outrageously expensive and very average. The cherry/chocolate Cakken (Sp?) recommended by the server was also average at best. The only good thing I have to say is our server did a great job and was very well versed on the menu, but in a restaurant like this he should have a suit that isn't 3 sizes too big for his tall skinny frame. There were 7 people in our party and we all agreed that considering the outrageous prices, it was nearly $900 after tip, the experience was sorely disappointing. Also, considering the restaurant has only been open three weeks, I could understand if the service was bad as everyone adjusts to the new operation, but it was the food that was just awful and frankly, unless we hear the menu changes dramatically, we will not be back. I'll also say that having lived here in Las Vegas for 26 years, I frequented the Voodoo Steak and Voodoo Lounge often and I was also disappointed in the decor I found at High Steaks. It really looks like you rushed to get this place open without taking the time to take this incredible space and make it uniquely yours. The forest green is everywhere and inescapable. Yet, walk into the bathroom and the purple paint and glossy wall tiles from Voodoo are still exactly the same and nothing has been updated in there at all. The wall plate covering urinal pipes is just hanging there unattached to the wall like you would expect to see in a place that has been open for years and lacked any maintenance, not in a new restaurant that has only been open for three weeks. Considering how impressive the decor and design is at the the new Esther's location, High Steaks looks like cheap lipstick on a pig. Again, just disappointing.

Currently Chef James Trees’ sixth Las Vegas venture, the first proper Restaurant in a Casino following quick-casual concepts at The Strat and Resorts World, High Steaks Vegas opened atop the Rio’s Masquerade Tower in early October. Previously home to VooDoo Steak & VooDoo Lounge, at one time premier Off-Strip destinations for locals and tourists alike, 2025 instead sees casino brass attempting to resurrect a derelict property with free parking, affordable Cocktails and the sort of Food worth getting excited about. Visited very early, service and expediting an expected challenge across an immense dining room dominated by green, panoramic views of Las Vegas come at a fraction of the cost of Top of The World, Foundation Room or whatever replaces Vetri at The Palms. No doubt a space willing to take chances to capture locals, a $16 Sidecar or Espresso Martini roughly half-off compared to three recently-opened Steakhouses at The Venetian, housemade Bread offers a stretchy surface complimented by Mustard Butter while several sizes of Seafood Tower deliver Prawns and Crudo plus the usual Lobster, Oysters and Crab. Taking on several common themes for Starters, Bar Boheme’s French Onion Soup ported over perfectly to the Rio, “Truffle Crusted Mushrooms” taste better than their presentation lets on while Crab Cakes and Bacon are enjoyable if not “wowing” in comparison to Pork Terrine as good as one will find on the streets of Paris. Not an “Italian Steakhouse,” though Trees and team smartly flex their muscles with spicy Seafood Rigatoni, delicate Tortellini and a “Mac & Cheese” dish that rethinks mom’s advice to “eat your veggies,” diners tired of the same tired Steak & Salmon will love “The Hunt” with Boar, Elk, Venison and “Lion” in the form of a Vegan-friendly Mushroom treated to a multi-step process that will impress Carnivores, as well. Not forgetting Smoked Prime Rib, not pretty but tender and tasty, Trees elevates Midwestern stable Salisbury Steak to new heights with rich Mushroom Gravy while sides range from simple Fries to Asparagus with King Crab and Jalapeno Creamed Corn. Trusting Chef Jake Yergensen for Desserts, a smart choice after his work at Esther’s and Bar Boheme, suffice it to say High Steaks’ “Piecaken” poses nicely for the #gram while straddling a fine line between French Silk and Black Forest while the Pumpkin Souffle and Donuts with impeccable Coconut Ice Cream are enjoyable, but not quite on the level of Hummingbird Cake made exactly as it aught to be.

Locals beware. My dear friends and groomsmen take me on what started out as a nice dinner to celebrate my upcoming wedding. We ate good and the food was good but the service was lacking at times, forgetting to bring a salad and mixing up a few mains when they came out. Minor mistakes sure, but clearly shouldn't have happened especially when charging some hefty prices on their menu. One of my friends didn't get his salad until we were all about done, because the waitstaff/server all but disappeared and considering they didn't sell everything to us at once we thought it was coming. That was the most egregious example, if you don't count the fact they tried to bring the groom the check when everyone else made it clear I wasn't paying for a thing. There were other, smaller mistakes that are just not acceptable when charging those kind of premium pricing for a restaurant in the Rio of all places, renovations or not. There are no table captains, they were not sweeping crumbs or changing linens in between courses, it isn't white gloved service and the restaurant by all accounts wasn't packed so maybe it's a slow night, but that doesn't excuse the fact that when tipping based upon performance (because tips aren't to be EXPECTED, they're extra for EXCEPTIONAL performance), we are met with a scene straight out of the Sopranos. We're a hardworking, civilized bunch, so instead of acting out like Paulie and Chrissy over a tip that was well beyond $16, my best man, who footed the whole bill pulled out an additional 10%, and told this dude to take it and get lost. He magnanimously refused at first, but ultimately took it. I regret that it came to such a head, ultimately being shook down for an additional gratuity that's given out based on performance and trying to embarrass the table in front of the dozen other people dining there when we didn't agree the service was up to snuff, the money isn't the issue, but it's the principle. I will certainly never return, and I will tell anyone who's willing to listen that High Steaks Vegas just is not the place to come and spend your hard earned money on. There are not many places that can cook exotic and game meats well, which makes this a real shame, but it's certainly not worth being extorted, akin to charity shaming because that's exactly what it was, charity, can't even write it off either. Tips are earned. I'm a young man who has worked in service all through college and I've never had the gall to pull a stunt like that. I've done far more for far less, both in terms of a payout and for genuinely rude people. It's the first time we've sat down for a meal in over 7 years and this ugly memory is unfortunately associated with what was supposed to be a good experience. Check posted for proof. Date was 10/23/25. I ain't coming back no matter what you offer me, so don't bother.
