  Here in Jersey, we know our pizza! With an estimated 2,000 pizzerias, no Jerseyan is ever far from a satisfying slice. The first pizzerias in the Garden State opened their doors in the 1920s, serving a simple Neapolitan-style pizza with just tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Over time, as more Italian immigrants arrived and began to put their own spin on the classic recipe, New Jersey pizza began to evolve and take on a unique character of its own. Gencarelli’s of Lyndhurst stands out as a vibrant Italian hidden gem dining destination off of New York Avenue, where we paid them a visit for lunch today. Upon arrival as first-timers at this family-owned establishment, my partner and I were greeted by the staff and got a booth. Their menu is diverse, featuring beloved staples such as pizzas, subs, calzones, a variety of meat, pasta dishes, and a lunch special. We decided on two regular slices and two Sicilian. The pizzas were tasty and hit the spot. The portion was healthy and didn’t break the wallet. Our server Donna was friendly and made us feel at home. Pizzerias are spread all over the US, but the most successful pizzerias with the tastiest pizza pies are the ones that use only the freshest tomatoes, cheeses, and ingredients. Most of us take pizza for granted, but many of us never stop to think about the history of what we are putting into our mouths and bodies.

  Rarely do i EVER give 5 stars for a restaurant but these guys are almost ALWAYS perfect when it comes to the food, service, and atmosphere. To start off, the sicilian slices are delicious, thick, and crispy. Loved the cheese and pizza toppings. They use good mozzarella at this place. I will always recommend people to get sicilian here, The wings are probably the best wings iv’e had. Im from the South so we take out Chiken wings and BBQ serious down there. Amazingly crispy, high quality meat, absolutely fulfilling. The buffalo pizza however, i was not a fan of. Tasted great, but there was a lot of sag on it and the cheese and toppings kept slipping off almost making not edible as a slice of pizza. This place is great though and seems like a hidden gem tucked next to a shoprite. I recommend ANYBODY visiting North Jersey to try this place out at least one time and go for the Sicilian slices. Great prices too. $3 for a slice of sicilian is great and budget friendly if you are trying to feed the kids.

  How you expect a tip if you give bad service and don’t take care of the ppl your serving never ever going back there not a good place at all also the food I had wasn’t good at all
