I’m leaving this review because what happened at this McDonald’s in Rochester on Wakefield st. on Dec 17,2025 around 6pm during the evening shift was honestly one of the most upsetting fast-food experiences I’ve ever had.
I placed my order through the McDonald’s app, paid ahead of time, and selected drive-thru pickup. My order total was over $30, I pulled into the drive-thru, gave my order number and proceeded to the first window, got my receipt and was told to go ahead to window number 2. I was then directed forward again and told to pull up to the third pickup window because my order “wasn’t ready.”
I waited in my car for over 10 minutes with no update. No one came to the window, no one communicated what was going on, and I was just sitting there watching time go by with a prepaid order that should have been straightforward. After waiting that long with zero communication, I finally went inside to ask about my order. A heavyset male employee was rude and dismissive. He basically brushed me off and told me it wasn’t ready, with no explanation and no estimate of how much longer it would be.
I went back out to my car and continued waiting. During that time, I watched multiple cars go through and get served while I continued waiting on a prepaid app order that I had already paid for. At that point, my husband needed to leave for work, and we still hadn’t received anything. Once the drive-thru line cleared, I backed up to the second window to politely ask how much longer it would be because we had already been waiting a long time and had no information.
That’s when things went from frustrating to completely unacceptable. A female employee, who I believe may have been the manager, immediately became hostile. She raised her voice and started yelling at me. I wasn’t yelling, I wasn’t being disrespectful—I was asking about my order and the long delay. She used profanity, including the F-word, while speaking to me. And in front of young high school employees. Terrible example for young people. I was shocked. No customer should ever be spoken to like that, especially over something as simple as asking what’s happening with a paid order. I think now thinking back, that my order was never started, and rather than explaining that to me, she went crazy.
Then she told me I was not getting my food at all. So after all that waiting, I was being refused the order I had already paid for. To make matters worse, the refund handling was a mess. Instead of properly processing the full refund for the app/card payment, I was only given $11 back on the spot, even though my total was over $30. I then had to go back inside and deal with the same heavyset male employee who was still rude, again to get the rest of my money back. Eventually I did receive the full refund, but I never received any of the food.
So to recap: a prepaid app order was never fulfilled, there was no communication while I waited, staff were rude and dismissive when I asked about it, I was yelled at and sworn at by someone who appeared to be in charge, and the refund was initially done incorrectly which forced me to go back inside and push for the remainder. I left in tears, and I will not be returning to this location.
This store seriously needs management oversight and retraining, especially on basic customer service, app order fulfillment, and correct refund procedures. I truly hope this location investigates that shift, including any available camera footage, because no one should be treated this way over a simple drive-thru pickup.
