I grew up in Wilmington and moved to the Raleigh-Durham area about 7 years ago. Every time I go back to visit, I stop by K38 and take a tub of salsa and chips for the road. Thank you for bringing my favorite restaurant to Raleigh 🙏🙏

Walking in, we were greeted by a friendly host with a great smile, which set a positive tone initially.
After being seated, we immediately noticed the floors were finished incorrectly—chairs slide as if they’re on wheels. You have to sit completely still or you’ll slide, which made the dining experience uncomfortable.
We ordered:
• Chicken & steak fajitas $25
• Steak fajitas $24
• Kids meal 8.50
• 1 drink $3.00
. Mexican Street Corn $5
. Elote Dip $5 Ramikin Size
Total: $80
The chicken portion was extremely small—about five thin slices, even after paying extra for chicken. The steak, while it tasted good, was also a very small portion. Both fajita plates were overwhelmingly peppers and onions, with minimal protein. The second steak fajita plate had roughly 8 slivers of steak, again buried under peppers and onions.
The rice tasted like parboiled rice with a red powdered seasoning. The pinto beans had a strange smoky flavor that simply doesn’t belong in beans.
The flour tortillas were hard and tasted old, definitely not fresh.
The elote “dip” was extremely dry. The menu describes it as Mexican street corn mixed with black beans and red onion, but there was no mayo at all and an overwhelming amount of cumin. I had to ask for a side of mayo and add lime just to make it edible. This dish is more of an elote salad than a dip.
The Mexican street corn on the cob was also very dry, overly salty, and heavy on red powder seasoning—again, no mayo, which is essential.
The guacamole tasted store-bought—bland, no salt, no lime. Lime is a key ingredient in good guacamole, and it was completely missing.
The kids meal was okay, but it states it comes with a cookie. When I asked I was told “if we have them.” They did not. If an item isn’t consistently available, it should be removed from the menu.
We also intended to order a burger, but they were unavailable as well.

As an executive chef with over 20 years of experience and a current food business owner, I don’t usually leave reviews. I truly had high hopes for this place and was excited to try it. Unfortunately, there is a lot that needs improvement—from portioning and seasoning to menu accuracy and service.
Service lacked attentiveness; we had to ask twice for drink refills, and the server rarely checked in.
Sadly, we won’t be returning.

I was excited to try this new place after seeing the reviews and reading the menu. Well, that quickly changed. We ordered the house margaritas - they were made with table salt on the rim. Had to try to flag down the manager to get them sent back. He acknowledged it should be kosher salt on them - but only offer was to remake without salt. The cheesesteak crips that I saw good reviews was really just a quesadilla open faced. Nothing special. The rest of the table was not wowed with the food. Most lacked any significant flavor. The manager and owner where there...but not really going around to tables. Oh and the bathrooms. Nasty. Neither were able to be used due to unclean conditions. Better places nearby.

Okay, so this is the third time we’ve been here in 1 week! We are told the fish is brought in fresh everyday and the salsa is also made fresh daily (*delish.*) We’ve had Megan as our bartender/server twice while seated at the bar and service has been so, so good. She gives quality service while also being personable, genuine and making great margs. Thanks for coming to seaboard, k38!

Came with a small party the service was good. The food had no flavor profiles. We had the shrimp ACP and the shrimp were charred on one side and overcooked the rice was salty and undercooked the queso was bland. The dish was also served on what I would consider a rectangular tapas/appetizer plate. The kids nachos were bland and cold. I was shocked the kids nachos and ACP came on the same size plate. The rice on our ACP plates was more of a garnish than a serving. Idk if that’s standard but that was our experience. It is a new establishment however, considering the location and it being an established brand the expectations were not met. We may try them again in the near future once they have their footing but for now we will stick to the local family owned restaurants.
