For anyone craving authentic Bengali cuisine in and around the Chicago area, Turmerica is truly a hidden gem. Chef Sunny does an excellent job of bringing the traditional flavors of Kolkata to life. The food is rich, flavorful, and nostalgic, making you feel like you’re enjoying a home-cooked meal straight from Bengal. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience genuine regional Indian cuisine. Highly recommended dishes :Fishfry, Macher kochuri, Peas kochuri, Biriyani, Mutton Kosha.

UPDATE: Owner Response & Resolution
I want to genuinely appreciate the way the owner handled this feedback. He personally called the very next day, acknowledged the mistake, and explained that the dish was mistakenly prepared as a vegetable gravy chowmein instead of chicken. That kind of ownership and willingness to listen is what sets good businessmen apart.
To make it right, he invited us back and treated us to complimentary gravy noodles, a generous serving of gravy, and two matar kachories — all on the house. The gesture was thoughtful and sincere, and the hospitality was truly appreciated. Not many places take feedback this seriously or act on it so quickly.
I’m keeping my original review for transparency, but I do want to commend the owner for his professionalism and customer-first attitude. I hope they continue refining portion sizes and pricing alignment going forward, because with this level of responsiveness, Turmerica has the right intent to do well.

Review – Gravy Chicken Chowmein at Turmerica
The gravy chicken chowmein didn't have any piece of chicken at all. The portion is extremely small for the price. At $18.99, the serving is not even half of what’s normally expected for a chowmein dish. The quantity felt more like a side or sample rather than a full entrée, which makes the pricing hard to justify.
Based purely on portion vs. price, this is poor value and not worth ordering. Unless the portion size is significantly increased, this item should be avoided.
The website photos and description are misleading and create expectations of a full entrée, which is not what you receive. This comes across as deceptive advertising when the actual portion is so far off from what’s implied.
They have lost it. When they opened this place a few years ago, the quality was lot better. We went there recently and ordered 3 vegetarian dishes. The Baingan curry was horrible but neatly presented in a bowl. It was just cut eggplant with lot of turmeric powder and water. The Malwani curry was too oily and had lot of masala but no taste. Solkadi was okay. It was just differently flavored buttermilk. Gobi munchurian was very good. Kothmibir wadi was okay but I would not recommend it. Staff was courteous. I keep coming back to Turmerica because the food—especially the Bengali dishes—is genuinely excellent. The flavors are authentic and consistently good. I also want to say that the owner is a genuinely good person, and when he’s personally involved, the experience is much smoother.
That said, today’s experience was extremely frustrating and crossed the line. I placed my order 30 minutes in advance, arrived on time, and then waited another 30 minutes at the restaurant. Despite that, my food was still not ready, and I ultimately had to leave without my order. During this time, customers who arrived after me were served 15–20 minutes earlier, which made the situation even more disappointing.
This issue seems to happen mostly when orders are handled by others and not the owner himself. I was also told certain items were unavailable, only to see those same dishes being served to other customers. This lack of transparency and order fairness has happened multiple times now.
Great food and a good owner deserve better execution. Until wait times and order management improve, experiences like this make it hard for loyal customers to keep coming back.
