We had a nice experience overall at Checher DC. The food was flavorful and satisfying — we ordered one lamb plate, two beef plates, honey wine, and two sambosas. Everything tasted good, especially the main dishes. The only downside was that the sambosas came out cold, which was a little disappointing. Other than that, we enjoyed the meal and appreciated the variety of flavors.

the food was cold I went two years ago and my sister and I STILL talk about how bad it was. We know Ethiopian food very well. The dishes were old and cold I practically was picking at my food. Don’t recommend!! There are tons of other great Ethiopian restaurants in dc. Save your money
Overall, this was a solid experience with some real highlights. The vegetable platter was definitely the standout, very flavorful, well seasoned, and satisfying. The portion sizes were generous, and the spiced tea was really good and nicely balanced, not overpowering.
My only critique is texture-related: I personally prefer my yellow split peas to be softer, and some parts were a bit firmer than I like. My friend ordered the chicken tibs, and while they were okay, they didn’t taste as fresh as expected. That said, no one got sick, so it may have just been an off moment rather than a bigger issue.
All in all, the food was good, the vegetarian options really shined, and I’d come back, especially for the veggie platter and tea. With a little more consistency, this could easily be a go-to spot.
For my last day in DC I was torn between Bbq or Ethiopian cuisine; sooo glad I picked this restaurant. I've had Ethiopian food before in Canada yet every place has it's own savour.
Got the Vegan Special and I had a chance to try some items for the first time. I was truly enchanted since every bite had something unique to offer. My favourite were the String beans and red lentils. Really wanted to try Berbere chicken but it wasn't offered in any of the combos so that was a miss for me.
Overall I left satisfied.

I ordered delivery and didn't expect this to be the worst experience I've ever had with ordering food online. I specifically requested 1 gluten free injera (charged for additional fees) but the delivery comes with regular injera at the bottom, and two other packs of injeras with no labels or packaging. It's impossible to tell which pack I should have and my guess is that the server didn't check the notes and just put regular injeras as usual. Perhaps then they remembered and added an additional injera. Anyways, it became a guessing game and I got so uncomfortable with the food in front of me.It's totally irresponsible for a restaurant to ignore gluten free requests and mess up important things like this!
