This spot was such a pleasant surprise. The sushi tasted incredibly fresh, clean, flavorful, and clearly well prepared. I also ordered the coconut Thai curry chicken, and it was really good: rich, comforting, and full of flavor without being overwhelming. One of the biggest highlights was the tequila flight, which I don’t see often and absolutely loved. It was perfect for sharing and honestly elevated the whole experience, it was fun, unique, and well curated. On top of that, the place itself is beautiful, with a great atmosphere that makes you want to sit, enjoy your food, and take your time. Between the fresh sushi, delicious curry, standout drinks, and the overall vibe, this is definitely a place I’d come back to and recommend.

I don’t often walk into a restaurant and walk straight back out again without ordering. Usually I’ll at least sit down, sigh heavily, and give it a chance. But Akeno managed the rare feat of repelling me within minutes, which frankly takes talent. The place was practically empty at 3 p.m. not “a few spare tables,” but the sort of emptiness you expect after a health inspection. And yet, when we politely asked to change tables, we were met with an attitude so frosty it could preserve meat for the winter. The tone wasn’t “unfortunately no” it was “how dare you exist.” The staff’s demeanor wasn’t just bad, it was actively hostile, as if customer service were a personal insult. You half expect them to sigh, roll their eyes, and ask why you’ve interrupted their day by attempting to eat food in a restaurant. And then there are the prices. Eye wateringly high. The sort of prices you might tolerate in a glamorous part of town with white tablecloths and charm. But here? What a joke. So yes, we left. And it was the right decision. A restaurant that empty, that expensive, and that rude clearly has bigger problems than table logistics. Before worrying about where customers sit, Akeno might want to consider putting its own house in order starting with the basics: manners, common sense, and a faint understanding of why restaurants exist in the first place.

Cool spot for sushi and other Asian eats. Nice rooftoop area and sushi counter seating. Fish is fresh and rice is cooked and seasoned well.

The best dinner I’ve had in DC thus far. The service is impeccable, and the staff are all lovely. It was my birthday, and our waiter saw it on my ID without even asking. He brought out a mango cheesecake (delicious, by the way—you have to try it) and made me feel so special. From the time we arrived to ordering and eating, everything took under 30 minutes. I will be going back every week.

Quaint place with fresh sushi options and Thai options. Dishes are beautifully presented. I ordered was a mango sticky rice. Finding parking nearby is a bit of a challenge
