If you are a Black person, this location would prefer you only go to the academy store. Their behavior is indicative of racism and prejudice, both which are mental and emotional illnesses that have no place in a wellness based business. We are a breast cancer awareness organization that was gifted 100 VIP Cards by the manager Cooper for the guests of our annual walk from the Academy location of tropical smoothie cafe. The cards can be used anywhere in Colorado Springs and there are only two stores here, academy and silicone heights. When our survivors went to use this card at the silicone heights location they are met with hostility and aggression. To accuse all of our guests of attaining the cards by dishonest means and to threaten to call the police and your corporate office over a smoothie coupon is further indication that this location has serious issues with having to make more than one black person at a time a smoothie. Caleb, who is the store manager at silicone heights, actually refused to give us his email so that we can send him the proof that we attained these card legitimately. He’s telling his staff the cards must have a signature from a GM on them, but why has that not been the case for every white person that we have given these cards to?? And why is there no signature line in these cards for management if it is mandated that they be signed. Elijah from silicone heights told us this was directives given last week, we received our cards in September and gave them out for events leading up to our major walk so people would have been coming in since September and all last week to redeem them. What is the contingency plan for cards given out by your sister store before your made up rules last week because you simply do not want to serve everyone with decency and respect? Turning away cancer survivors and their families and using language that insinuates that they are thieves and then to proceed to embarrass them in front of the store and staff by threatening legal action and cutting up the cards over a $8.99 smoothie voucher is definitely telling of the times we are in. Corporate doesn’t condone this and has been notified and are completely unaware of this conduct and we are working together to figure out why this store is behaving this way toward Black customers. They don’t care to have our business anyway but I know there are those who will see this and choose to spend their money elsewhere out of solidarity and respect so that is the only reason we are posting this review. Race came into this because we are a breast cancer organization that supports women of color, so majority of the people who would be coming in to redeem their tickets are in fact women of color. When we donated a substantial portion of our tickets to a majority white organization we did not have this issue. We will never eat and spend money somewhere where people can’t event treat cancer patients with dignity and compassion. That isn’t a place to trust with your health, and everyone we know will know not to shop here.

Deeply disappointed and heartbroken by how a breast cancer survivor was treated.
In the silicone heights location today…
I never imagined I’d have to write a review like this, but what happened at Tropical Smoothie Cafe today was truly unacceptable. A breast cancer survivor, someone who has already been through more than most of us can imagine, tried to use a valid VIP card at the counter. These were given out at a breast cancer walk for survivors. Instead of treating her with kindness or even basic respect, the employee refused to accept the card and went so far as to threaten to cut it up right there in front of everyone.
The situation was handled with zero compassion and complete disregard for dignity. It was humiliating to witness, and deeply upsetting to see a survivor treated that way, especially by a company that often promotes health, wellness, and community.
Even if there was a technical issue or a store policy about VIP cards, which there wasn’t, there was no excuse for such cruelty or public disrespect. A simple explanation and some empathy would have gone a long way.
I sincerely hope corporate management sees this and takes immediate action — not just to make this right for the person involved, but to ensure no one else has to experience such a painful and unnecessary moment in their stores.
Compassion and kindness cost nothing. I truly hope Tropical Smoothie Cafe remembers that.

Sometimes the employees are very sweet but it is incredibly inconsistent. Tipped an employee in cash and he did not even acknowledge or say anything as he took it from me.
Don’t come here if you are on your lunch break or don’t have all the time in the world to wait for usually very slow service.
