Every single time I shop here and this particular older employee is working, (I will edit soon with her name) I feel singled out and treated with unnecessary hostility. On my most recent visit, there were no handheld baskets available at the front. I noticed one sitting in a closed-off aisle and walked over to grab it. There was a chain blocking the aisle, but I wasn’t trying to enter it—I was simply reaching under to grab the basket. Before I could even explain, the employee began loudly telling me to “go around,” raising her voice in front of other customers and staff. I tried to calmly say I was just getting a basket, but she continued to escalate, speaking over me and insisting there was “a reason” the chain was there. What made it worse was that she then began talking about me to other customers and employees nearby, making comments loud enough for me to hear, as if I wasn’t standing right there. It felt like she was deliberately trying to belittle me and turn a simple moment into a public embarrassment. This isn’t an isolated incident. This happens every time I come here when she’s working. The tone, the volume, the public correction—it consistently feels targeted. I’m a 41-year-old husband and father of four boys, just trying to buy groceries, and yet I regularly leave this store feeling disrespected and unwelcome. Shopping for food shouldn’t feel stressful or humiliating. I truly hope management takes this seriously, because no customer should feel uncomfortable, singled out, or shamed simply for trying to shop.
