Very disappointed for a second time. Such a beautiful venue but missing on so many levels. Limited menu: no pasta, no seafood. Second visit when they ran out of our first choice. Burnt chicken sandwich. Chocolate "mousse" was a thick, hard paste. Slow service. Coconut curry vegetarian rice dish only had broccoli in it and the broccoli was undercooked. Just not good enough for a high end restaurant. Unfortunately we won't be going back unless they change management. (It's for sale)
Sad to say our experience was substandard. At this price point, the expectation is exemplary service and food. Sadly not the case. No explanation of the menu, which goes on and on about all the ingredients. And when the food arrives….not sure what to say. “Wilted Greens” were warmed arugula? For $12? Strange. Ordered the NY steak at $55, medium rare. It was rare, super rare, but charred on the outside. And not seasoned at all. The young gal that dropped off our food, literally did just that..”here’s your food”. We said we are sharing, but she just walked away. Waited for the waitress for a bit, I walked and found a young busser and asked for salt. By the time he came we realized the steak was absolutely raw and not up to standard. Went to the waitress and spoke with the manager. You would think it would have been receptive, but he bristled. I guess you can do that in a tourist town because people will still show up and pay SF prices for poor food and service. Unfortunate end to a lovely time in Nevada City.
Outstanding dinner, cocktails and dessert. Judy served and her recommendations were spot on. Stone House was a great Saturday night meal…..

The Stonehouse in Nevada City was phenomenal to say the least. Sol, James and Kaitlyn rocked it tonight and really treated our tribe like family. 10/10 would recommend! I think we got nearly one of everything and we were all pleasantly surprised with the service and all the yummy food. So good! We didnt have self control over some of the dishes so we didnt get pictures of everything but here is what we did try. The foccacia bread with buratta, cauliflower with Tahini sauce, fresh oysters, Mediterranean plate, side of fries, side of saffron rice, two of their pizzas, the grass fed lamb, a burger, chicken marsala and one of each of the desserts with the favorite being the chocolate mousse. Spectacular service, even better food!

My husband son and I went to the Victorian Christmas event and were looking forward to a nice dinner afterward. If I could give a zero rating I would. The service was very slow and the server was not familiar with anything on the menu! After inquiring about cocktail choices she had to go ask if they served a certain brand of gin and bourbon. The drinks finally came and were ok. We waiting for a long while before she came for our order and then did not have any answers to our questions about how the cauliflower was prepared…she didn’t know, so ordered anyway. Come to find out they were out of the cauliflower dish, out of gnocchi dish and after ordering the ribeye we were informed it was the last one available! The ribeye steak was supposed to be 16 oz and looked thin and about half that size! The flavor was horrible and the chicken sandwich which we had to order since they were out of gnocchi, was also! The Mediterranean salad was good….thats about it! The manager did give us a discount after we complained but was not really apologetic. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!!!!
