- EWErik Wick3 days ago3.0This McDonald’s on Balfour Road has been frustratingly inconsistent lately, and most of it comes down to order accuracy, especially when there are customizations. Mistakes happen everywhere, but here it feels routine, and it has reached the point where “fast food” turns into babysitting my own order. When I am paying extra for add-ons or making simple changes, I should be able to trust that the kitchen will follow what the order actually says. What makes this so aggravating is that McDonald’s already has a system designed to prevent exactly these problems. Orders are displayed on monitors for both the front counter and the production line, and those screens list every item and every customization clearly. The issue, based on what I witnessed, is not missing information. It is that the production staff apparently cannot read English well enough to follow the customization text, so they seem to rely on memorizing the basic item names and building everything the default way. That gap explains why customizations keep getting ignored or even done backwards. A worker can recognize “cheeseburger” and assemble the default version from memory, but something like “Extra Onion” does not get understood or acted on, so you end up with no onions instead of more. On my most recent visit, my order was brought out missing all of the burgers, and after they eventually found them and handed them to me, the customization was still wrong. The front counter staff had to translate and explain the screen in Spanish to get it corrected. On top of that, prices here and at McDonald’s in general have gotten high enough that this level of quality and service just does not feel acceptable, because the value is not matching what you are paying for.
