Today, Saturday November 22, 2025 we bought some petite sirloin steaks. When we opened the package at home, there was a horrible smell. I have never smelled anything like it. We took the package back and spoke to the manager, who then called someone from the meat department. They were all very nice about it, but the fact remains that this was possibly rotten meat and we could have gotten gravely ill or worse. This was very disappointing as we buy food here every week and have done so for decades. Hope it was only a one-time occurrence. (Side note: When we got home, the terrible smell was still in the air. I am astonished that this happened.)

I’m extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Safeway. The store was a mess, with shelves half-empty and products scattered all over the aisles. It took me over 20 minutes just to find the one item I needed, and even then, they were out of stock.

Poor Customer Service Experience – Safeway Nogales (October 1, 2025, 8:20 a.m.) During my visit to the Safeway store in Nogales on October 1, 2025, at around 8:20 a.m., I had a very disappointing experience at checkout. The cashier, named Cristobal, was talking with another employee who was bagging groceries. As I approached the register, he continued his conversation, using obscene language with the other employee. He did not greet me and only focused on finishing the transaction, which came across as rude and unprofessional. When giving me the total, he simply charged me without saying “thank you,” eager to return to his conversation. Customer service at this store has declined significantly. This is the second time I have experienced poor treatment from employees. A few days ago, another incident occurred with a young woman from Cuba—when I asked if she liked her job, she replied that she did not and that she also didn’t like where she lived. This type of behavior should be brought to the attention of upper management so that action can be taken regarding employees whose attitudes and conduct are harming the company’s reputation.

Starting to hate this place. Several items we bought were already expired. Why are you selling expired food? The one time we took back something (bag of potatoes that reeked) the woman in the office gave us a dirty look like we had personally done something to stink up the obviously rotten potatoes. Today the cashier (Shay) was helping one of her friends check out, waited forever and then she slammed our food down on the counter and shoved the bags at us. We’ve been going to Safeway for four generations but maybe we should stop going.
