DO NOT BANK HERE. If I could give negative stars, I would.
My mom passed away and we've been trying for over 2 years to close her account. We've dealt with the Gig Harbor and Pearl Street branches. Every time we talk to someone, they give us another hoop to jump through and another reason why we can't close the account.
She did not have a will drawn up as it was an unexpected death, she has no assets or estate therefore no executor, and no beneficiary listed on her account. What she had in the bank is all she had to her name.
As such, we were initially told we'd have to wait 2 years to see if anyone was going to claim the money but that afterwards we could present the original death certificate and claim the money. As my sister and I are her only family, we knew no one else was coming. But we waited. Then, when we finally went in with the original death certificate, they told us there was no way for them to release the funds to us without some legal action, an executor, etc. So why were we originally told to wait 2 years and all we'd need is the death certificate?? It was a complete waste of our time to turn around and be told the exact same things we already explained 2 years ago.
We contacted a lawyer who told us it would cost us more money to take our case to probate court than she even had in her account.
We had to pay a lawyer to draft us a small estate affidavit which he said is a STANDARD FORM that most banks have on file that you can easily fill out in instances like this. Even he couldn't understand WHY they've been giving us such a hard time for something that happens fairly often.
So, after presenting them with the original death certificate, the small estate affidavit, our ID's proving we're her two children, our lawyer's information, etc we were told they'd copy it all, send it to their legal department, and we'd hear back in a couple days.
It's been WEEKS. The man who gave us his business card rarely answers the phone. It almost always goes to voicemail. When he does answer, he says he's waiting to hear back from his "back office." We still have no answers from them and they have been extremely unhelpful.
After a family member's untimely death, you just want to close the chapter and move on. This is literally the last thing we have to settle and, as hard as we try, we cannot make any progress with Key Bank.

If I could put negative stars I would. This KeyBank is literally the WORST KeyBank I have the misfortune of coming to. I try to convince my grandparents to switch institutions almost every day because I have never in my life had such terrible customer service from a bank. They are never friendly whatsoever. I hate coming here.
