- JCJohn CrevlingDec 17, 20241.0I would really think twice about doing any banking with Umpqua. I’m on an account with my mother who has dementia and does not have legal capability of signing any document. I was advised I need to take my name off of her account, which I have POA for. My mom’s bank account has her Social Security and her retirement to pay her memory care costs. Closing this account, instead of signing her off this account, that is attached to her Medicaid/medicare is not the easiest thing to do in a timely manner, which could affect my mom‘s Medicaid benefits by having to set up a whole new account with her direct deposits. Umpqua legal department told me , even though she does not have legal capability of doing so that I needed to bring my mother into a branch to sign off on her account. This is their legal department, giving me this advice. My mom doesn’t have legal capability of signing any documents, that’s the whole reason why I have POA for my mom I’m not an attorney, but I think that would open me up to some legal problems. If I did what they advise me to do. If their legal council is giving this type of advice I would really think twice about investing any money with this financial institution. Rating them with a one star is being generous. It should be zero stars.

He was professional, friendly, and warm. I've interacted with other staff as well, and I get the same experience. I'm really happy--it was a great decision to bank with Umpqua!
- MWMarlea WilsonDec 30, 20221.0This is NOT a competitive bank nor a place to invest any money. After not checking estatements for a few months they started sending paper statements and charging for them. I NEVER asked for paper statements. When a CD matured I allowed it to roll over assuming the rate would be at least marginally competitive. NOT, it even dropped from .06 to .05 interest. (For comparison, current rates at other banks are ranging from 2%-4.5%) They will not budge, and are now charging me $1000 to pull my money early. Since I will still be better off even after paying the fine, I am doing so, but I will never bank with Columbia again.
