  I’m not sure of the manager or supervisor’s name there, so I’ll just call her “Karen.” About a week ago, I came in to cash a security deposit check issued by the bank and made out to me and my brother. Since my brother had already gone back to New York, Karen suggested I get a power of attorney. I came back a week later with a limited power of attorney, which should have been fine. Instead, I was told it wasn’t enough and that the bank required a durable power of attorney. That made no sense. Durable POAs don’t expire and aren’t limited by definition. On top of that, I was told it had to be the bank’s own version of a durable POA. That’s ridiculous, because my brother in New York can’t legally sign a Virginia-specific durable POA and have it notarized there. The moment I started asking more questions, Karen’s fake-helpful tone cracked, revealing the hostility that was there all along. To get me out of the way, she called someone who apparently told her not to even accept the bank’s own document. As the call was ending, she smirked and let out a quick, derisive laugh before dismissing me outright, which felt flat-out unprofessional, especially after I had already waited a week just to come back and try again. She kept insisting she had given me “options,” but none of them were actually viable. When I pressed further, she cut me off mid-question and told me to leave. The way she handled the situation showed no genuine empathy, no real effort to help, and no true professionalism… only a thinly veiled facade that collapsed the moment I asked for answers. I’ve never been treated so dismissively in a bank. After this experience, I completely understand why this branch has such a poor reputation. I’ll admit I called her a few names on my way out, which I’m not proud of, but the frustration was real. She was one of the most dismissive and impatient people I’ve ever dealt with in customer service. She gave me the runaround for over a week on an issue that came directly from her own advice, then acted like I was the problem for even asking questions. At the end of the day, I was just looking for help. That’s the bare minimum anyone should expect in any customer service situation. And when you’re dealing with money that often determines whether people like me can make ends meet, especially in this economy, professionalism isn’t optional. It’s everything.

  Shirt bank and shirt service. I have never met such lazy and rude people. I can see why all their customers are leaving them and going to Town Bank. The sad part is I have been a loyal customer to this bank since it first started as bank of Hampton roads. The worst thing that ever happened to this bank was when it merged and started hitting bums with no work ethic or customer service. At least one day a week when the bank was bank of Hampton roads, would they stay open till 6:00 or not lock their doors till after 5. I showed up at 5:02 and was ignored. In the past someone would greet me and still offer to help.

  Extremely helpful and nice. They even will fill out our deposit slips for you!! No other bank will take the time to help you like that! Love the service at the Indian River Road location

  The people in this branch are polite and nice enough but I can’t recommend this bank to anyone. Just not customer friendly
