After 10 years of being a Capital One cardholder, I’ve decided it’s time to close my account. My experience with Capital One has generally been positive — the card helped me manage bills responsibly and I always made sure payments were on time. However, after more than a decade of loyalty, I’m disappointed that I’ve never been considered for a credit limit increase.
I’ve spoken with several representatives who explained that their terms require an almost perfect credit history to qualify for an increase. While I may not have a flawless record, I have remained a loyal customer through the years — even when many others closed their accounts. It’s discouraging to realize that loyalty and consistency seem to hold little value when company policies are so rigid.
I’ve had this card since my early 20s and am now approaching my 40s. It’s difficult to part ways with something that has been part of my financial journey for so long, but it’s clear that Capital One no longer aligns with my needs. For those considering applying, please be aware: unless your credit is perfect, Capital One may not reward your commitment. Unfortunately, I’ve learned that loyalty doesn’t outweigh policy.

Disappointing customer service. Needed assistance with Treasury Direct certification by financial institution. First request they said they could help (it was for one of my family) but the individual needed a Capital One account open for 30 days before they could certify. So opened account. 6 weeks later called to set up assistance. Capital One McLean then said they couldn’t certify but to come to the office and they would notarize. So we came to Mclean office to get notary. Once there they said they couldn’t notarize or help us at all. Not happy so have moved all of my money out of Capital One.

Redundant messaging on phone calls and hang ups when I don't have information requested. Not a happy customer.
