I’ve banked with FMB for 15 years and have had mostly good experiences. Despite seeing my paycheck deposited bi-weekly from the same employer for 15 years they are refusing to offer any assistance due to the government shut down. As an excepted employee, I am furloughed without pay but still required to show up every day and work. I don’t have the ability to temporarily work elsewhere for a paycheck because my job is deemed essential. The FDIC has encouraged banks to work with federal employees impacted by the shut down. You can go on most bank websites and see something as simple as advancing paychecks. Or 60 day interest free loans. Not FMB. All they can offer is a short term loan at 16%!! It’s unreal that a local bank would rather lose a long standing customer than implement some type of financial assistance for federal workers that aren’t getting paid. UPDATE AFTER THE REPLY: I went to close my accounts and was put on the phone with a man named John. He clearly did not have an understanding of what a federal shut down means for federal employees but was insistent on being able to help me with a “creative solution” so I entertained the conversation. I explained that I already had a new account established with a bank that was offering 90 days 0% to fed employees and that I only needed to move my money. I made it very clear that I was not going to pay ANY interest when the fact that my income has stopped is not my fault. And again, I already had another 0% ready to go. His creative solution to allow me to not have to move everything was to offer me a loan that he would defer the first payment on and that deferring the payment would defer interest accrual. I even clarified that statement to make sure I heard it right. This would give me about 60 days, in his words, of interest free - even though the loan itself wouldn’t be. As John works for the bank and seems to be in a high enough position to be put on the phone with him when I tried to close my accounts, I believed him. I filled out the forms. I let them hit my credit. And then they called the next day with terms that in fact did have interest accruing daily so that even if I immediately paid the loan within a week, I’d have interest. Granted, it would be minimal. I don’t care if it would be 2 cents. The problem here is that I was transparent about my new accounts and the ability to do interest free with no credit check. I was clear that I was NOT going to pay interest when I had options that didn’t make me. Now I have had my credit hit and have wasted two days over a loan I won’t be taking. Not to mention Megan, who was wonderful, had to stay after hours to process my loan and her time over the last two days has been wasted as well. It’s really disheartening when you are going to work every day, working 9 and 10 hour days, with 30% of the staff you need to properly serve the community and ensure federal entitlement benefits continue to get paid to our elderly and disabled all while not getting paid for over a month by a Congress that is actively continuing to pay itself- AND THEN have a financial institution try to make money off of that misfortune. I don’t care if it’s 5% or 16%.

I've always had professional assistance, maybe once I became concern there we was down, sounded strange. Otherwise there a good community aside from my branching.

I was very disappointed in how their cashiers greeted me. I didn't even want to finish my transaction after I asked where the bathroom was, their attitude and snootiness drove me out. If you are reading this go to another bank.
