I will get text messages if they see unusual charges on my account and ask if the charges are legit. I went into the bank lobby last Christmas to withdraw some cash, and the teller casually mentioned, "Oh, gifts for the grandkids?" I thought that was really weird, but suddenly realized why he said it. He was trying to find out if I was being scammed. I laughed and said, "No, and it's not for scammers either."
