  I don’t usually take the time to review a bank, but in this case, it feels like a civic duty. Our small business has banked with Independent Financial in Round Rock for over 20 years. We’ve remained loyal through ups and downs, trusting in the value of working with a local bank that understands relationships matter. Unfortunately, that relationship ended the moment SouthState Bank out of Florida took over. Today, we were told a critical rent receipt deposit, something we’ve made monthly for years without issue, would be placed on hold due to its size. This decision, made without warning, directly impacts our ability to meet financial obligations on time. Late fees, disrupted operations, and damaged trust are the result. Small businesses rely on banks not just to hold money, but to be financial partners. When that partnership vanishes, and your funds are held hostage for no valid reason, it becomes clear that the “local bank” we once relied on is now just another faceless institution concerned only with its own bottom line. And yes, during the hold, they are making money on our money, while we absorb the consequences. If you are a small business owner or a personal banking customer, I strongly urge you to consider other options. This bank no longer behaves like a community-focused institution. We’ll be moving our accounts, and while the loss of our business may not register on their ledger, perhaps this review can serve as a warning to others before they find themselves in a similar position.
